I have done a couple of medichecks tests: 1 was a Fatigue test, the other a FT3. I have secondary hypothyroidism and currently on 225mcg Levothyroxine.
CRP 0.95 (<5)
TSH 0.644 (0.27- 4.2)
FT4 18.6 (12-22)
FT3 3.53 (3.1-6.8)
Vit D 47.2 (50-175)
Ferritin 106 (13-150)
Iron 34.15 (5.8-34.5)
Will be getting Folate and Vit b12 soon.
I have always been concerned that I don't convert T4 to T3 very well. What is the normal acceptable ratio, mine is 5.3:1.
How do you work out the % of the range? Complete fog.
Also what is a good D3 supplement.
Thanks in advance.

Was your FT3 test done from the same blood draw as the TSH and FT4?
A good FT4:FT3 ratio would be between 3:1 and 4:1 but the best indicator is to look at FT4 and FT3 results. Your FT4 is 66% through range and your FT3 is 11.62% through range. When on Levo only most people feel best when they are in balance in the upper part of their ranges.
I have always done very well with Doctor's Best D3 softgels. You will need about 4,000-5,000iu daily to reach the recommended level of 100-150nmol from your current level, retest in 3 months. Don't forget D3's important cofactors - magnesium and Vit K2-mk7.
No it wasn't, unfortunately I had to try and get the cheapest combo, not ideal. The results a week between. The next one will be the full test. Using that calculator the T3 has come up as 11.62% in range. I this likely to improve with Vit D supplements?
To know how well you convert T4 to T3 it's necessary that the tests are done from the same blood draw.
Usually the Thyroid Ultravit test is the best when thyroid and vitamin tests are needed.
When I had severe Vit D deficiency of 15 and managed to bring it up to 202, it did not improve my T4 to T3 conversion, but I also had low Ferritin, low Folate and when everything had been optimised I still had poor conversion.
Using that calculator the T3 has come up as 11.62% in range.
Yes, I mistakenly put your FT3 result as the percentage, I've edited my post now to show the correct percentage.
Thank you. So how have you improved your conversion or do you use a combo? It's maybe not the time to start introducing T3 and my Endo last year refused to even test my T3.
You can send for the list of thyroid friendly endos from Dionne at ThyroidUK then ask on the forum for feedback by private message on any that you can travel to.
Thought you did.... its something I've considered and was offered a few years back but since moving to Cornwall my ex endo wouldn't even test and definitely not support dual therapy!
I'm one of those that is middling most of the time but never really get to crisis point. But I'm losing hair, I've put on nearly a stone and a half (after years of stable weight) and I constantly feel that I'm over stretching myself and this leads to mental and physical exhaustion. I guess I've just got used to feeling like this!!
Do you feel better and have you sourced from overseas
I do have other health conditions that cause me problems but thyroid-wise I am pretty stable and feel as though I am optimally medicated. I sourced some T3 back in 2017, just before it became difficult to get from Greece, and stocked up. I am currently using out of date tablets but there has been no deterioration in protency.
It would seem logical that you need a little T3 along with your T4 to bring both these vital thyroid hormones into balance and support you with an acceptable level of wellness.
I live in Cornwall but refused a trial of T3 in 2018 owing to my suppressed TSH.
I'm with Graves and post RAI thyroid ablation.
I'm now self medicating and much improved.
I know of people down here being encouraged to switch their T3 back to T4 - and it does appear to be something of a postcode lottery:
