Thyroid blood results querie

Hello everyone

I would really appreciate thoughts on my blood results.

My current symptoms are muscle and bo e aches, cognitive impairment and fatigue.My liver enzymes are high but liver scans are fine. Do you think there could be a link with these levels and hypothyroidism? I take 125 thyroxin daily. Have has Hashi for 30 years always been o 125 -150 daily. only been Ill for last year or two.

B12 a d Ferrine and folate were done but cant find results. They said were fine.

You really need FT3 done at the same time to complete the picture. Your current FT4 suggests that you are taking too much Levo. However, depending on where your FT3 lies you may need your FT4 that high to get a reasonable level of FT3. Testing all together tells you whether you convert T4 to T3 well enough or whether you have a conversion problem.

Vit D 81 nml

The Vit D Council recommends a level of 125nmol/L and the Vit D Society recommends a level of 100-150nmol/L. I would want mine within the recommended range, preferably at the upper end. If you want to improve your level then you are looking at supplementing with possibly 3,000iu D3 daily along with D3's important cofactors magnesium (helps the body convert Vit D into it's active form and Vit K2-MK7 which is needed to direct the extra uptake of calcium from food to bones and teeth where it's needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems.

B12 a d Ferrine and folate were done but cant find results. They said were fine.

Saying "fine" doesn't mean anything other than they are somewhere within the range, could be at the very bottom or very top or anywhere in between. Ferritin is recommended to be half way through range and B12 should be near the top of the range. So it's very important to know exactly what the result is, along with the reference range. Low levels of any of them are going to cause problems.

I can't comment on your liver results other than to say I've been taking Levo for 45 years and my liver tests are done quarterly due to taking another medication known to have the side effect of causing liver problems. My liver results are good and they are stable, so mine haven't been affected by my hypothyroidism nor my thyroid hormone replacement. Of course, that doesn't mean that you definitely wont be affected.

Thank you so much for all of that information. I have found Free T3 for the previous months blood. it is 5.02 (3.01-6.8) T4 also that month was 19.02 with tsh at0.13. Will up my D and look into the rest of the bits.

Do you think that I would benefit from extra T 3?

Taking the results when FT3 was included and assuming the FT4 range is the same:

TSH: 0.13 (30.4.5) - this range doesn't make any sense

FT4: 19.02 (10.00-22.00)

FT3: 5.02 (3.01-6.8) - are you sure that's not 3.1 rather than 3.01?

Your FT4 is 75.17% through range and, using the more usual range of 3.1-6.8 for FT3 then that is 51.89% through range.

Your FT3 isn't dire but could be better, when on Levo only good conversion is shown when FT4 and FT3 are more or less in balance percentage-wise through range.

Good conversion can be helped by optimal nutrient levels, supplementing with selenium can help conversion too.

You should make sure all nutrient levels are optimal before considering adding T3:

Vit D - 100-150nmol/L

B12 - top of range for Total B12, at least over 70 (preferably 100+) for Active B12

Folate - at least half way through range

Ferritin - half way through range

Wow, thank you. More stuff I didn't know. The % through the range is interesting. My B12 is high through range (found it) So just the 2 Fs to check, the D to up to 3000 and Selenium to buy.

Selenium to buy.

Avoid Selenium selenite or selenate as they have poor absorption. Choose Selenium l-selenomethionine or a yeast bound selenium such as the one from Cytoplan which is suitable for people with Candida and yeast sensitivities.

Don't forget D3's important cofactors mentioned above.

Your symptoms are the same ones I get when my tsh drops below 2.40. If I take a dose of synthroid that is even 5 mcg too much for me I get bad muscle aches severe bone pain. I get so weak and tired as well. Your tsh is saying your dose of med is too much. Leaving you with hyperthyroidism. Which causes muscle wasting and calcium to be pulled out of the bones. That’s why hyperthyroidism over time causes osteoporosis. As you get older are bodies cannot handle what it could years ago. I have to keep my tsh between 3.00-4.00 to keep from feeling that way

Is Synthroid similar to thyroxin?

yes you probably need to decrease your dosage. I lived 15 years with hyperthyroidism and then had an ablation and now I’ve lived 10 years being hypothyroid. I’ve had to constantly increase and decrease my Synthroid, it’s just a name brand type of levothyroxine. It’s highly recommended because it has the least amount of dose variation in batches instead of the generic can vary a lot. Its very hard to ever fully stabalize and feel well when the medicine can vary in strengths. Thyroxine is a very very narrow therapeutic medicine that the slightest change in dosage can have extensive effects.
