I am new to the site. I would like advice in relation to digestive problems since taking levothyroxine. In September 2012 I was diagnosed with a multi nodular goitre and thyrotoxicosis. I was treated with Carbimazole for about 2 years. In September 2015 I had radio-iodine treatment and since then my thyroid has been under-active and I have taken levothyroxine. When taking about 100mg a day I feel reasonably well but usually I am recommended to take a lower dose of about 75mg when I begin feeling tired put on weight. Also I developed constipation and indigestion /acid reflux since the radio active iodine treatment. In August 2019 my blood results were T4 22.5 TSH 0.10 when I was taking 100 mg daily. I reduced the dose then to 100mg 5 days a week and 75mg 2 days (weekends). January 2020 blood results are T4 23.30 and TSH 0.79. My GP has asked me to reduce dose to 75 mg a day which I have done. I have had various other blood tests done
B12/Folate (LASA)- normal - no action Plasma vitamin B12 level 754 pg/ml range 197.0-771.0pg/mL
serum folate 15.4 ng/mL range 2.90-26.8ng/mL
serum ferritin (LASA) normal 38 ug/L range 13.00-150.00ug/L
serum amylase level (RASH) sl raised 127 iu/L range 28-100.00iu/L
serum C reactive protein level (RASH) 0.6 mg/L range 0.00-5.00mg/L
serum iron tests (RASH) normal
Serum lipids
serum cholesterol 5.7 mmol/L range 2.5-5.00mmol/L
serum triglycerides 1.7mmol/L range 0.40-2.30mmol/L
serum HDL cholesterol level 2.3 mmol/L range 1.20-1.70mmol/L
non HDL Cholesterol 3.4
Some other blood results but I think they are not relevant. serum gamma GT, bone profile, liver function, renal function NRBC count and white and red blood cell count.
I have not yet discussed the results with the GP.
Any suggestions would be welcome. I keep very fit and eat a pretty healthy diet. However I have not tried a gluten free diet which I think some people recommend on this site. Nor have I tried T3. Thanks for any tips.
