Hypo and also Menopausal and bleeding every other week. Giving body little time to make up iron levels perhaps. Already have b thalassemia trait since birth for which I take ferrous Fumarate.

Why? You definitely need to test your iron levels especially your ferritin. When I was first ill with thyroid disease I had a continuous period for 6 months and my iron and ferritin were very low. I would ask another Doctor if this one refuses to give you a blood test. Also has your Doctor sent you for any investigations for your bleeding? I was sent for a hysterscopy and and biopsy because of my bleeding. They all turned out to be normal because it was because I was hyperthyroid. You can read my story on my profile page.
