Vitamin And Nutrients plus Thyroid Health

I am taking a vitamin complex called rainbow light its a food based multivitamin and I am trying to help if I am low with any vitamins. I started a multi vitamin regimen for about a week. I am wondering if I previously overcame a iron deficiency and I have only had low vitamin should it effect my thyroid function too negatively. I can think of low vitamin d as of right now with a deficiency. I don’t think my doctor test are beyond b-12, vitamin d and iron!

I don't think multi-vitamins help us much and it is better to take a vitamin you are actually low in ... I have low vitamin D so I use a spray daily.

I will keep it in mind I have an individual bottle of vitamin d. Boy do I hate this condition on top of other crap but I know it will come together.

I think the spray is better because sometimes we have difficulty absorbing vitamins in our stomach with this horrible disease. When I was first diagnosed I had a vitamin D level of 7 and my ferritin was very low. My hair was falling out and a couple of my nails dropped off as well.

I can say I have to make things work regardless of my state of a crappiness. I like to think of it as a condition because condition can change but diseases remain unless cured. I know my complaint is just the extra related things but I have to digress move on.

There is no cure I'm afraid just treatment or in my case remission if I am lucky.

I feel it dampens everything I am trying to get myself at least more functional.

You will improve once your levels and vitamins are right. Look at me ... this time last year I could not get out of bed or drive and I was suicidal. Now I feel really well except I have flu at the moment so I am coughing a bit.

You give me hope I had got better treatment and I done quite well in school but I have my personal and work life effected to where it all needs to be more homogenous.

Stress can affect your thyroid, I watched my best friend of nearly 30 years die from a brain tumor and I was devastated. We had been friends since we were 16 years of age she was like a sister to me. I then started to get symptoms of this disease and I think her death contributed to it.

Stress has a mind-body connection. I try to pursue my hobby whenever I have the energy. I love the doing little things to keep my mind off the annoying things. Oh I am sorry to her about your friend it seems a people in our sphere in life play big parts in our well being. I know remember the good memories with them help.

Yes I am quite a positive person even though I have watched a couple of people I love die from cancer including my mother who was only in her 40s.

in reply to Lora7again

Oh dear I am sorry for your losses! I know it can be a great deal to lose a parent, I had lost my stepmom to cancer about a year ago. She was a big deal to me since my mother never was in my life.

Morgan. Multivitamins are not great to take in my opinion. You do not know how much of each vitamin you are getting and some of the contents of the tablet can block the absorption of other vitamins. I believe it was multivitamin tablets that added to my thyroid going wrong. The tablets I took for many years to improve calcium and vit d, also contained 100% of the daily dose of iodine. I was not iodine deficient and I think this was in part the start of my thyroid problems. It is better to get vitamin levels tested and then target the low ones with quality replacements in measured doses.

Thank you I know thyroid researcher said the amount of the vitamins in a multi vitamin might not be enough to adequately treat a deficiency.

There are several different rainbow light multis, so I'm assuming you take the Women's One. And, it's typical of all the reasons why you shouldn't take a multi:

* It contains iron, for a start, so that will block the absorption of all the vitamins.

* It contains calcium, so the iron and the calcium will bind together and you won't absorb either of them.

* It contains copper and zinc. Hypos are usually high in copper and low in zinc, so taking more copper is not a good idea. You should get copper tested before taking any.

* It contains iodine, and you shouldn't ever take iodine without first testing to see if you're deficient, and then only take it under the supervision of an experienced practitioner. It's not something to mess around with.

* Some of the quantities are so small, it's laughable. Others are too much. So, it's totally unbalanced.

You're just throwing your money down the drain with that multi, I'm afraid.

Greygoose thank you I will stay on top of it! I realize the purpose for the rainbow light multi vitamin originally was for the iron but I dont need it anymore.
