Help needed please: After 21 years of being on 3 grains of various NDT plus antidepressants (originally given because of Graves disease which resulted in a thyroidectomy) was urged by pharmacist to come off dosulepin which I did (the last antidepressant taken in September. Expected the usual awful withdrawal symptoms but seemingly it was thought my thyroid had gone overactive (even though tests appeared to be okay ie TSH: 0.01, Free T4: 12.8, Free T3: 5.7) symptoms included sudden weight loss, horrendous anxiety, insomnia. I was urged to reduce the NDT taking into account that I already had osteoporosis and scoliosis and successfully decreased by 1/4 grain and did indeed regain some weight and lost the horrendous anxiety. However, upon reducing by a further 1/4 grain over the past week the insomnia is horrendous even though drinking green and camomile tea in the main; have slightly swollen ankles, heart discomfort, pains in left arm but have been assured that I'm not having a heart attack. Asked to be referred to an endocrinologist but GP stated she couldn't justify it as my results were fine so now looking to find someone privately. Meanwhile feel anxious about my deteriorating health and would be grateful if anyone else could confirm if they had problems whilst reducing on Nature Thyroid or any other NDT.

Reducing Nature Thyroid
I'd say you found your sweet spot by reducing by 1/4 grain. Chug along with that, increase the second 1/4 you reduced and see how you feel in February.
It takes a while for our bodies to respond when we change the levels of support we're giving. You were in any event likely to be reducing at a bad time for doing so. We thyroidies may need a little more NDT in the winter than we do in the summer and winter is coming innit tho 🐉
There is no evidence that any thyroid med increases the risk of osteoporosis unless you are very aged and bedbound.

Thank you so much - can't tell you how appreciative I am! Just for the record and in case it helps anyone else I had breast cancer two years after my thyroidectomy (feel there is a connection here) resulting in 5 years of Tamoxifen plus early menopause. Undoubtedly bone problems would have begun then but not picked up until 4 years ago when I noticed hip profusion.
