Need help with blood test

Hello everyone, I am taking 120 mg (2grains) compound desiccated thyroid medication and had my blood test recently. The blood test was done 15 hours after medication at 7:30 a.m. I am 43 years old and I have Hashimoto's, I have B12 injections 2 times a week and take 5,ooo iu vitamin D3 every weekday with vit K. I have been having heavy periods for a few years and has gotten worst to the point of me being scared to leave the house because in a split second I could get soaked with blood and big clots. I am not sure if it has to do with my thyroid or not. I have been bleeding for over 12 days and doesn't seem to want to stop. In April I was bleeding for 25 days and I don't know what is causing this. I get severe anemic since my iron has always been low. TSH 0.01 0.32-4.00

Free T4 9 9-19

Free T3 3.7 2.6-5.8

Thanks

Heavy periods are classic sign of being hypothyroid

Your FT3 is very low

Have you tried increasing NDT dose?

Presumably you have to have regular iron transfusions to prevent severe Anaemia

You need to retest vitamin D

Folate needs testing too

Do you supplement a good quality daily vitamin B complex ?

Are you on strictly gluten free diet?

I will try increasing my NDT. What number should I aim for in Free T3 ranges 2.6-5.8)? I don't think my doctor will be interested in testing my Vit D3. She didn't wanted to test it in the first place. My numbers for D3 72 ranges 75-250 nmol/L and she told me to take 1,000 iu and I take 5,000 iu. I can tell she doesn't know nothing about nutrients and vitamins. I'll ask anyways. taking vitamin D3 helped my immune system so much, I used to catch everything that went around. RBC Folate is 2132 >1186 nmol/L

I take B-right Jarrow Formulas one a day. I tried going gluten free but I didn't feel a difference. Thank you SlowDragon

One more question should I increase 15 mg or 30 mg? I would have to cut the pills in half for 15 mg.

Might be worth reposting your question or DMing SlowDragon directly - if you reply to yourself...your comment/question does not show up as easily to the administrators where they can see it.

Hope you manage to get sorted out.

My daughter has heavy periods too and I am wondering if she has hypothyroidism.

Thanks. I can't live like this, I have 3 children and they need me. I have to find out what's causing this. I have been taking NDT for over 6 years and still can't find my dose. It's depressing. I hope your daughter find help with this heavy periods, it depletes you physically, mentally and emotionally.

No problem. I have hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's. Been hypo all my life I believe - treated for 12 years but still very under medicated. Only found out about the Hashimoto's very recently.

This forum is brilliant. It is good to talk and to learn from each other. Good luck!

15mcg, or a quarter grain is the ideal size to increase. You may need several increases to get to where you need to be, which is with a freeT3 high in range, or symptoms resolved.

I took 30 mg extra this morning because I tried cutting it and it all crumbled it up. thanks for your time.

Some of them are easier to cut than others. You could try a razorblade, or get a few different pill cutters to try - not all are the same and some are a lot better than others.

Worst case scenario you can grind the whole thing to powder and measure out the sections.

Thank you. Do you feel like it would be too much adding 30 mg?

In general its better to go slowly, it gives your body a chance to adjust and make good use of the higher hormone levels, and it allows you to close in on your own sweet spot.

Thanks I'll look into a pill cutter. Thank you

I had the same and the Doctor gave me Tranexamic Acid Tablets to stop the bleeding. Thyroid disease can affect your periods. Luckily mine have stopped now because I have gone though the menopause.

I was given that too when I was bleeding for 25 days. It helped a little but I want to find out what's causing this. I am scared that might be something serious. It's hard to believe a person can bleed so much for so long. Thank you

I had a continuous period for 6 months and I had tests and was told I had small fibroids. I honestly think my thyroid disease caused the bleeding I then went 4 months without a period when I was overactive. I have had several uterus biopsies and everything was normal. Try not to worry because it could be your thyroid causing the bleeding but do have some investigations like I did to make sure.

Thank you, I am increasing my medication and I'll see if there is a change. I'll try to get to an optimal level. Thanks
