Following on recent discussions about the flu jab, I have been ‘chosen’ to have one of these which are ‘in national short supply’. This is the Prevenar 13 vaccination against bacterium streptococcus pneumonia. A once only jab apparently. Although I don’t wont have the flu jab, this might be of use me thinks. Any views, information on this please? I don’t have hashi, my problems stem from poor conversion of T4. I take T3 and vitamins which renders me very well thanks to the excellent info on this forum. Many thanks for your views.

Pneumococcal vaccination
Do you know whether you're at particular risk of this form of pneumonia? Do you know why you've been offered the vaccine? What written information about the vaccine have you been given?
I have no idea as to why I’ve been ‘chosen’. It appears that the surgery has a supply and I’ve received an invite. From the NHS website info on this vaccine it’s available to over 65s with higher risk conditions. Apart from the general woes of us with hypothyroidism I have no other specific problems. On the face of it, it seems it might be a good idea which was why I posted. Generally I am now anti taking anything that is not absolutely necessary.
I think in your position I would want to have a close read of the Patient Information Leaflet for the vaccine before I made any decision on whether to go ahead. There ought to be information about the patent holder and/or licensed manufacturer, the contraindications, any adverse effects, and a full list of the adjuvants used. There should also be references to the studies done before the vaccine was licensed, but you may have to ask for a list of those.
I had the pneumonia, easier to type, vaccination when I was 65 and now due to Coeliac disease had the booster last year and will have very 5 years. No problems and no side effects, I get side effects from a paracetamol even! Flu jab fine too.
're the flu jab no problem nhs Lothian with supplies all categories getting it!
