Test information:

The PLAC Test measures Lp-PLA2 activity quantitatively. This assists with the prediction of risk caused by the thickening, or hardening, of the arteries caused by the build-up of plaque.

It measures levels of “Lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2)”, an enzyme which is a marker of inflammation and effectively a measure of the progression of rupture-prone arterial plaques. These plaques are the precursors of damage to important blood vessels, and rupture of one or more of them may lead to blockage of arteries, with heart attack or stroke the undesirable outcome. The higher the score the more precarious the state of play in the blood vessels, and therefore greater the risk of stroke or heart attack.

This Private PLAC (Pla2) Blood Test is available as a finger prick home test kit but can also be purchased as a professional vacutainer kit for a nurse visit or hospital attendance services. You may also self arrange a blood draw with a local service you are familiar with.
