What do I need to ask for with regard to iron studies? The one I see is serum iron, ferritin, transferrin, saturation ratio, then there are others that also look at other things including haemaglobin - the price goes up as you can imagine. The really expensive one also has Vit D 25 Hydroxy and 1,25 dihydroxy Vit D.
Thyroid tests - there are several. Looking at the two with TSH, FT3, FT4 and Reverse T3, one also has TSI and the two Hashi antibodies.
I'm not convinced that I need to spend the money on the Hashi antibodies - diagnosed 20 years ago based on them, not sure I've really seen any benefit from testing them since then?
If you've had positive antibody results in the past there's no much point in retesting those, but if they come as part of a bundle - which can be better value overall - then that's no problem.
Reverse T3 is not worth having. Your result will indicate whether or not it is high, if it is high it wont tell you why, and there are many, many reasons for high rT3 that aren't connected with thyroid.
Rt3 has been high in the past and it was tested then. Then I was glad to have it done as it showed abnormal and I was so unwell and doc thought it indicated a need for more t3. My ndt got upped and I felt much better. So much better. I'm now slightly curious as to what it Is now but so far not curious enough to pay for it.
The basic bundle is tsh, ft3, ft4. Then that plus antibodies is another. Then the second one plus tsh.
