I am currently on 125mcg of levothyroxine and my Dr has said i am taking too much now. These are my latest blood test results.

TSH 0.01 mU/L normal range: 0.30-4.20 mU/L

T4 20.2 pmol/L normal range: 9.0-19.0 pmol/L

T3 4.7 pmol/L normal range: 2.6-5.7 pmol/L

I just wondered what you guys think, do i need to reduce my thyroxine?

Only if he's prepared to add in some T3 to replace it. You are a poor converter, and need your FT4 that high - and we really don't care about the TSH - to get your FT3 to a decent level. If you reduce the levo, the FT3 will also reduce and you will feel worse. Your doctor has no real understanding of how it all works.

If I were you, I would ask for vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin tested. Low nutrients can have a negative effect on conversion.

Thanks greygoose, i have had all those tested and my vit D is super low so he's going to put me on 10000 iu for 4 weeks. this was a different dr that sent me a text telling me my results but i have an appointment with my Dr tomorrow and usually i get advice from here and he always agrees with the advice i've been given. i have asked in the past about T3 but he said no.

If he says no to T3, then he has no right to lower your dose of levo. He will make you ill.

Low vitamin D has significant affect on Thyroid

How low is vitamin D? If under 25nmol you need loading dose

Loading dose is 300,000iu in total over 6-8 weeks

GP will only prescribe to bring vitamin D up to 50nmol. Aiming to improve vitamin D by self supplementing after finish loading dose prescription, to at least 80nmol and around 100nmol may be better .

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Retesting twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is good as avoids poor gut function.

It's trial and error what dose each person needs. Frequently with Hashimoto's we need higher dose than average

You will also need B12, folate and ferritin tested

Add results and ranges if you have them

If you’re feeling well you don’t need to change anything and should actively resist attempts to get you to do so. At the very least you need a confirmatory test as these results are only just out of range anyway, and there is a margin of error on all tests. It’s possible that you don’t convert well but can feel well currently with tests slightly out of range. That’s ok the ranges are only statistics based on small samples, I always feel better with mine out of range!
