Thyroid-S users: is this true??? If so, a nightmare!!!

I just received the following message from my supplier of Thyroid-S:

"I have sad news. Sriprasit stopped producing Thyroid-S. The reason is lack of demand from hospitals and pharmacies.

We still have few bottles left, so if you want to get some stock... ".

Can this be true???? If so, what a nightmare...I know they stopped manufacturing TR some time ago, but now it seems Thyroid-S will no longer be manufactured either...leaving only Thiroyd, unless they decide to pull that as well. Then we'll be left with Thyro-Gold and whichever prescription brands we can get...paying a lot more for something that may not even work as well as Thai NDT...

It would be a shame, recently I swap from NT to Thiroyd (no -S) and I feel really good. I was feeling sick on NT (nature-throid) but on thai-thiroyd I'm ok. I hope we do not hear the same news for Thiroyd.

I am afraid that may very well happen...lots of people are on Thyroid-S and doing great on it. Yet, it’s not deemed profitable by the manufacturer. I honestly don’t know why Thiroyd would be any different as I’d imagine as many or even more people are on Thyroid-S...

Thiroyd is aluminum free, Thyroid-S contain some aluminum fillers maybe why is different.

This is awful news - it’s been the medication that saved me. What brand does everyone else use - Thiroyd - is that good?

in reply to missrees

Thiroyd is the only remaining Thai NDT since TMan stopped manufacturing TR a few months ago. It’s supposedly very good and some say it’s like old Armour (pre-reformulation).

Thanks - scary isn’t it? I’ll have to start a production in the UK.

It is often referred to in this forum that there was a US study a few years ago on the potency and safety of drugs several years after their expiry date. It would be good to know it the same would be true of NDT? And any ways to store them to prolong their life?

in reply to Kitten44

I remember reading a few years ago - I think it was on the STTM site - that some people keep NDT in the freezer to prolong its shelf life and it can then keep its potency for years after the formal expiry date.

Just asked my supplier and she said she just asked her Siprasit salesperson but there hasn’t been any news about that. She also confirmed that she has Thyroid-S stocked and ready to ship.

Sure! I PM’d you.

I hope you are right because it would be a true nightmare if Thyroid-S were to disappear. I asked my supplier if he was really sure he was not referring to TR and he said "no, it's Thyroid-S and Sriprasit has confirmed it". But I have not seen that info on any site selling Thyroid-S and still hope my supplier may have got it wrong...I'd appreciate it if anyone with news about this could post it here or PM it (if suppliers' names are mentioned).

I take Tman TR now, which is being discontinued, so I eventually will have to switch to Thyroid-S too.

in reply to Quilliam

I've been in contact with this seller and received the same news; that is, Sriprasit has NOT confirmed Thyroid-S is being discontinued and there are currently no problems replenishing stocks.

A friend of mine switched from Thyroid-S to Thiroyd about six months ago, and finds the latter to be much weaker...although Thiroyd contains slightly less thyroid hormone per grain (35 mcg T4/8.31 mcg T3 vs 38 mcg T4/9 mcg T3 in Thyroid-S), I doubt that can make much of a difference...so, even though Thyroid-S contains more fillers, it seems some feel it's more potent than Thiroyd...which I find both interesting and worrying, should Thiroyd turn out to be the last available Thai NDT on the market after all...

The STTM paints a very gloomy picture; it seems several brands of NDT, T3, and even glandulars have been either discontinued (often without any prior notice or explanation) or reformulated and reported to work less well:

stopthethyroidmadness.com/a...

This does not bode well for those of us who simply don't do well on T4 only meds.

I have emailed Sriprasit to ask them if my supplier was right about Thyroid-S being discontinued; if I get a reply, I will post it here.
