Thyroid-S reformulated...?

Has anyone noticed a change when it comes to the efficacy of Thyroid-S? I have found some posts in various forums talking about a possible reformulation...now, I know thyroid patients have a tendency to freak out about this because of what happened to Armour and, more recently, Erfa, leaving us with fewer options, but I'd really hate if it happened to Thyroid-S, too...the problem is that the manufacturers of Thai NDT won't communicate with the public, and they have no obligation whatsoever to disclose the inactive ingredients (fillers)...

My husband takes Thyroid-S, so I'm interested to see if anyone has any info.

Anna69,

I think thyroid patients tend to assume their NDT or T3 has been reformulated because it isn't working for them in the same way it once did. If they had thyroid blood tests it would probably show they were under or overmedicated but many prefer to dose to symptoms.

Yes, definitely a difference that was felt immediately upon opening a new bottle back in March. There has been previous mention of this by another member too.

Could you post a link to that, please...?

Although the original poster has now updated to say the thyroid-s was not her problem, another poster agrees there has been a change

Thanks!

But Armour was indeed reformulated, and this was confirmed by the manufacturer back in 2008/09...the sucrose content was lowered and the cellulose content increased. This may primarily have been a problem for patients used to taking NDT sublingually (which I have never done).

I have been considering going back on Armour (one of the two brands of NDT available in Belgium and prescribed by my doctor), but prices are prohibitive...around 100€ or 120 USD/90 GBP a month, possibly more, depending on your dose. I know of many who can no longer afford to buy NDT legally, so they depend on Thai NDT...which is why the rumours of a possible reformulation of Thyroid-S, making it less effective, are very worrying.

Why are you thinking of changing anna69?..do you feel is it not working for you anymore?...I've just recieved 500 Thyroid S tablets today on top of another 1000 Thiroyd that i have been taking but wondering whether to give Thyroid S a try as I just can't stop tingling and wondered if a change in brand may be key?....It seems there always seems to be a problem with everything you try and do to get well with this disease ..I'm at my wits end with it all and could of bought myself a Ferrari with all the bloody money I have spent/wasted on trying to do what my quack should be doing and still not feeling well!!

in reply to Lozzer66

I agree that it would be stupid to switch to another brand as long as I am doing well on Thyroid-S...I do indeed feel it's working, and very well on top of it. I guess it's just easy to get paranoid when you read about alleged reformulations of brand X, Y, and Z...thank you for making me see things more clearly by asking me a very simple, yet pertinent, question!

When I started Thyroid-S, a couple of years ago, I worried about the long list of fillers, but it has worked very well so I no longer care about that.

I also worried about the fillers that's why I plumped for 'Thiroid' instead, butI've purchased the Thyroid S as I am not on top of things yet and wounder if this change over may be key for me...I'm nervous but I won't know until I try .I'm glad your doing good and" if it ain't broke don't fix it!"long may it continue, take care ,Lozzer

A new excipient is being marketed. Mannitol, a diuretic. a sugar alcohol.

For me and lots of French people it causes the drugs to pass right through. No matter how much you take the drug is not bio-available to us. A matter of metabolism. It looks as though this has been reformulated into Thyroid-S as an excipient.

No wonder I have been so exhausted. That is why I am looking this up. Now I know.

Mannitol has been available and used in current UK approved medicines since at the very least 2011.

You can find information as to its use as an excipient at least as far back as 1975.

This is not about any positive or negative aspects of its use. Just about it not being "new".

Could you let us know where we can find the full list of excipients for Thyroid S?

When you see a user name of Hidden, it means that the person is no longer a member of this forum.

This is also a very old post. I shall now close this post to replies.
