Is this due to low iron??

Fasting blood test, 9am

Taking 50mcg levo, 20mcg t3

Have been cleared of pituitary issue through mri. Vitamins optimal except iron——

Serum 13.1 (7-26)

Transferrin 2.68 (2-3.2)

Ferritin 45 (5-204)

Sat 20% (20-60)

Does Janie bowthropes article on pooling and iron reflect what might be happening to me?? Remaining hypo with high t3? Thank you

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

If/when also on T3, make sure to take last dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test

Is this how you do your tests?

How do you take your T3?

As 2 or 3 split doses?

What would happen if you increased your Levothyroxine dose up ?

50mcg is a very low dose, even with 20mcg T3

Ferritin is too low. What are you doing to improve levels?

Eating liver or liver pate once a week, plus other iron rich foods like black pudding, prawns, spinach, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily vitamin C can help improve iron absorption

Do you have high thyroid antibodies?

Have you tried strictly gluten free diet?

Other vitamins, do you need to supplement to keep them optimal?

Can you add the actual results and ranges on these

Thank you- so you see my elevated tsh and overrange t3 though? I’m interested in the pooling side and if anyone has any thoughts on that too please

So how long before test was last dose of T3?

Have you ever tested Reverse T3 or done saliva cortisol testing?

Dee8686 profile image
Dee8686 in reply toSlowDragon

My cortisol is good-

(As per Janie b).

Last thyroid dose that day was taken at 6pm

Reverse t3 is high. 227 (90-215) on another recent test.

So you may need to look at trying T3 only

I don't have any experience of that

Paul Robinson book discusses this I think

Learnt today that low ferritin can be cause of high reverse T3

Thank you xxx

I also found these posts

today which I feel

Echo my results a little!

I know I need to up my iron and I think lowish morning cortisol are issues but I’m wondering if I should trial increasing my t3 and ignore the range because mine will be well

Over if

I’m ever to get optimal!
