Help & advice please

My daughter has just got her blood test back

TSH 4.35 range ( 0.4- 4.5 ml U/L)

FT3 2.6 range ( 2.3 4.2mg/mL

FT4 1 range (0.8-1.8) ngdl

TPO 256(0-8IU/ml

My daughter lives in the British West Indies, she has been prescribed 25mcg as trial for one month

She has been told she has high antibodies

Thoughts & advice are very much appreciated

Well, she's lucky that they don't want until TSH reaches 10 in that country :)

Her FT4 and FT3 are very low in range so they need raising to at least 50%, probably more, and TSH need to get down to around 1.

25mcg is a very small starter dose, and really she should be retested after 6 weeks. I think one month is too short for a trial as it can take 6 weeks for the full effects of starting Levo to be felt.

As she has high antibodies then that confirms autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto's which is where the thyroid is attacked and gradually destroyed. Fluctuations in symptoms and test results is common with Hashi's. She

can possibly help reduce the antibodies by adopting a strict gluten free diet which has helped many members here, although there is no guarantee.

Gluten contains gliadin (a protein) which is thought to trigger autoimmune attacks so eliminating gluten can help reduce these attacks.

You don't need to be gluten sensitive or have Coeliac disease for a gluten free diet to help.

Supplementing with selenium l-selenomethionine 200mcg daily can also help reduce the antibodies, as can keeping TSH suppressed.

Hashi's and gut absorption problems tend to go hand in hand and can very often result in low nutrient levels or deficiencies.

It would be a good idea to test:

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin
