I am prescribed 125mg Thyroxine, doc refused to let me try T3 so I have got a supply of New Zealand Thyrovanz but not sure how much I should start on, does anyone else use this product?

Suggest you email Dionne at Thyroid Uk for list of recommended thyroid specialists, many of whom do prescribe T3. Especially if patients have tested positive for DIO2 gene variation

Presumably you had Graves before RAI?

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised by Graves or Hashimoto's

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw). This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

A GP can not initiate prescribing T3. But you are entitled to a referral to an endocrinologist

Make sure it's the right endocrinologist

Very important to get Levothyroxine dose fine tuned and test vitamin levels and supplement any that are not absolutely optimal

When were vitamins last tested?

Have you tried strictly gluten free diet to see if it helps too?

Ideally ask GP for coeliac blood test first or buy test online for under £20, just to rule it out first

Trying gluten free diet for 3-6 months. If no noticeable improvement then reintroduce gluten and see if symptoms get worse

It would be good to see your blood test results with the ranges first. I think that bovine NDT is weaker than Porcine NDT. The T3 that's in it would require a gentle increase to start with maybe dropping some Levo and adding in a half of the Bovine. After two weeks increase by another half and drop more Levo. It's very hit and miss and takes time to be sorted out.

Agree with all the above . I haven’t taken the bovine T3 but I do know people that have and it does seem to be weaker than the porcine. And again starting low and going slow has been my experience no matter what sort of thyroid hormone I’ve taken . Over medicated symptoms are scarier in my opinion then under medicated but they can both be very very bad even deadly. Not to scare - but to caution.

We can find good health - everyone is different you’ll soon learn what your limits are . Again all the advice above is spot on take it to heart and best wishes. Please share what you find that works for you because they’ll be someone just like you come along before you know it.
