I'm new here looking for Good Endocrinologist in Brighton/Sussex

Hi

This is my first post here.

I am 55 years old, 2 years post-menopausal.

I've been diagnosed with Hashimoto's since 2015 & have never been treated as I'm 'within range' apart from the antibodies.

My TSH was sub-clinical hypo on Jan 2019 test at 7.9 (0..27 - 4.2), but has since returned within range (see results below)

My symptoms are very life-impacting though - for the last 3 years, exhaustion & depression so severe I'm in bed every other day, bad sleep (4-5 hours a night) despite sleeping pills (zolpidem 10mg), palpitations, anxiety, muscle weakness, loss of appetite, weight gain, dry skin & hair.

I have been Gluten-free & mostly dairy & sugar-free for about 7 weeks.

I am also taking Homeopathy, thyroidinum (Thyroid), karb-calc (Hashis) & liver & kidney & para-thyroid support. since February this year.

Can anyone recommend a good endocrinologist in Brighton/Sussex who maybe would prescribe NDT OR T4/T3 even though I'm not Hypo or Sub-Clinical Hypo (if I can persuade my GP to refer me)?

Or a good Private Doctor in the area?

Private message me if necessary for the rules here.

Latest Test Results 20th March 2019:

TSH 3.82 (0.27 - 4.2)

FT4 18.8 (12 - 22)

FT3 5.5 (3.1 - 6.8)

THYROID PEROXIDASE 160.9 (0 - 34)

THYROGLOBULIN lab refused ( January 2017 5.28 IU/ml (<4.11)

VIT D 79 (60 - 120)

FOLATE 5.2 (1.9 - 25) (Jan 2019)

VIT B12 410 (197 - 771)

FERRITIN 132 (13 - 150) (Jan 2019)

COELIAC negative / <1.9 (0 - 20) (Jan 2019)

CORTISOL 612 (133 -537) Has been above range at 540 - 650 repeatedly the last 4 years

Thank you for your advice & help

Please email Dionne at Thyroid Uk for list of recommended thyroid specialists

tukadmin@thyroiduk.org

Getting vitamins optimal can help TSH rise so that doctors will agree to treat....

instead of looking at the blood test results and not actually at the patient

Vitamin D needs improving to at least 80nmol and around 100nmol may be better

Better You vitamin D mouth spray is good as avoids poor gut function of Hashimoto's

B12 and folate on the low side. Supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid may be beneficial.

B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast

Recommended brands on here are Igennus Super B complex. (Often only need one tablet per day, not two. Certainly only start with one tablet per day after breakfast. Retesting levels in 6-8 weeks ).

Or Jarrow B-right is popular choice, but is large capsule

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Thanks for your reply, I forgot to mention that I already have the list of recommended private thyroid specialists from Dionne, but no one in my area & I wanted to know if any members in the area had info on good NHS endos or or private thyroid specialists in Sussex.

I also forgot to say I am taking Now Vit D3 & K2 Spray & this has raised my Vit D from 50 to 79 so will keep going.

And I have started on a good Vit B with Folate.

I will ask to be re-tested in 8 weeks.

Is it possible to be treated when results are within range, with T4/T3 or NDT with Hashis, maybe with a private doctor or would they only do this if out of range?
