Metallic taste and smell when I blow my nose.

When I blow my nose, I get a metallic taste and smell that can last all day. The medications I take, Keppra and Lamictal, do not say metallic taste or smell are potential side effects. Started drinking more water everyday, roughly 2 liters. Been trying different diets and testing foods, like staying away from coffee for a while. Taking more and less vitamins. Eating less sugars and more produce, eitc.

Been trying different things across roughly 6 months now, but the taste and smell is still the same. I am wondering now if I have mushrooms growing in my nose? But can a sinus infection really last that long?

Sounds like what I get - when my sinuses were bad this time I had a smell like exhaust fumes and a metallic taste in my mouth all the time.

I’d either go to your doctor or your dentist for a checkup.

One of the doctors I used to see was useless and would say the face pain must be toothache which wasn’t helpful so I found my dentist more use. Once he’d tapped and X-rayed my teeth (which eventually hurt too) and decided I had no problems with my teeth I would go back to my GP and get antibiotics to shift the sinus infection.

I think chronic sinusitis can last for weeks and you should get it treated. It’s also helpful to steam your head over a bowl of hot water with or without something like Olbas Oil. I ended up buying a cheap facial sauna because I was having to do it so regularly.

Hmm, okay. Have a 100 tablet container of amoxicillin, so may try that 3 times a day for 10 days. If that doesn’t do anything then it isn’t a sinus infection.

I have checked with my dentist as well. Said there’s nothing wrong with my oral hygiene, even better than a usual patient. He said to try swishing with fluoride mouthwash a good minute a day too see if that helps, but it didn’t. May have to go to an ENT doctor if the amoxicillin doesn’t do anything.

I do admit though, it’s helping me loose weight... the taste and smell is so bad I can’t eat. Only eat about once a day now, sometimes twice, but finding no joy in candy and desserts and things like that. Just eating when I can’t fast any longer.

Ive been avoiding fluoride and all additives so I’m using a fluoride free, SLS free, carrageenan free really gentle toothpaste called Himalayan Botanique. On my dentist’s advice I’ve been swishing my mouth out with Gengigel - it’s a nice gentle mouthwash that contains hyaluronon and that really helps.

Good luck with the penicillin, hopefully that will shift whatever is causing your problem. If not ask to be referred to an ENT surgeon and get it checked out.
