Moving from T4 and T3 to NDT not going well!

Has anyone had trouble switching from T4 and T3 to NDT? I have an amazing new Dr and after talking to her (and reading the STTM site) I decided to try it. I went from 50 of synthroid and 15 of cytomel to 1.5 grains of Nature Throid. Felt so so for a few weeks and then crashed...super tired and some body pain. Went back to synthroid and cytomel. After reading that Nature Throid reformulated and people are unhappy with it I decided to give NP thyroid a go. I started on two grains. Tired the first week then felt great for 2 -3 and now crashed again. So tired and my body hurts so bad!! I think I will switch back to synthetics. I feel like 2 grains should be plenty to match the 50 of synthroid and the 15 of cytomel so I wouldn’t think I am on too low a dose. I feel like everyone says NDT is better and if not then you need to look at other issues and solve those and NDT will always be better. Has anyone else had this fatigue and muscle pain?? Does anyone have any advice?? Thank you!!!

Go with what suits you, not what a website says. The ratio in NDT might not be quite right for you (you'll be getting more T4 and less T3 relatively), or the excipients might not suit you. I know it feels as though it ought to be better, but go with what works for you.

Good point about the ratios! I should quit feeling so pressured to try NDT just because it works well for others. Thank you :-)

I think this article explains it very well:

restartmed.com/thyroid-medi...

As others have pointed out, the T3:T4 ratio in NDT is not right for everyone. Some need more T4 and less T3, some less T4 and more T3.

I personally think the STTM is a bit too categorical, insisting NDT is right for everyone and humanity can basically be divided into two categories: those who have realised it and those who haven't...

I am glad I am not the only one who is starting to feel that way about STTM. I thought maybe I was alone and “why isn’t this working for me like that site is insisting it should?!” You and Angel of the North have a good point about the ratios! And I know I struggle with iron. So that maybe has an effect too. But if I feel ok and even good on synthetics then why push it so much?! I guess I could always try it again if I get iron optimal etc. Who knows. It will be telling to see if now that I started back on synthetics if these miserable symptoms resolve!

No, I think you should stay on synthetics if you feel well on that! That also allows you to play around with dosages and find out how much of each hormone you need.

Just an update :-). I switched off of NDT (NP thyroid) and back onto synthroid and liothyronine. I felt better within a week. So apparently NDT doesn't agree with everyone. I don't know how much my low ferritin played into it, but if I feel better on synthetics I think I will just stick with them!
