Has anyone changed from NDT to Levo. and T3

Hi

After my G.P. reduced my dose of levo. due to low TSH I decided to try NDT.

I have been taking WP Thyroid for three months and have just increased to 1 1/2 grains. I was on this does a few weeks ago but started to get a spaced out, disorientated feeling so cut back to 1 1/4 grains. Still felt real hypo. so after 2 1/2 weeks on this dose increased to 1 1/2 grains again, I felt better for a few days but the last three days have felt worse again.

I am starting to think NDT does not suit me for some reason and wonder if I should go back to levo. and add some T3.

Has anyone done this, if so how did you go about it and did you find any improvement.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Many thanks.

NDT didn't suit me, because of the T4, which I couldn't convert. So, I went onto T3 only.

If you want to change, just go cold turkey, and take the equivent of 1.5 grains of NDT in T4 and T3. Can't remember what that is, off hand. :)

Thank you greygoose,

the thing is before I started on NDT I did the Genova 24 hours urine test which in fact showed I was converting the T4 in Levo. into T3 but I was just not taking enough of it. I was taking 100mcg. levo. then. The Doctor reduced my dose of levo. from 125mcg. ten weeks previous to this because of low TSH so that is when I decided to try NDT.

I cannot seem get the NDT dose right and find there is not much improvement over Levo. hence the question.

In hindsight I should have just added T3 to my levo. dose, but everyone seems to think NDT is great that's why I went for it.

Yes, I lost about five years of my life because everyone thinks NDT is great! Nobody says that it doesn't suit everybody. Even my doctor kept saying well, take more, try a bit longer! So, now, I make a point of warning people that NDT is not the elixir of live! It made me very ill, and I put on a ton of weight. You might just as well let your doctor prescribe your levo, and buy your own T3. It would probably work out cheaper.

Yes I think that is what I should do, take the levo. and add T3.

I have a holiday booked in six weeks time and do not want to makes things worse for myself, so I can't decide to change back now to levo. and T3 or stick with the NDT until after my hols.

I am worried if I changed back now I could make myself worse before getting better.

Why is everything so difficult.
