Your folate is BELOW RANGE. See GP they should prescribe folic acid
Similarly vitamin D is too low. GP likely to only prescribe 800iu. Guidelines say you should be prescribed 1600iu but may need higher dose
GP will only prescribe to reach 75nmol
Aiming to improve to at least 80nmol and around 100nmol may be better .
Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is good as avoids poor gut function. Suggest you supplement 2000iu for 2-3 months and retest. It's trial and error what dose each person needs.
Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.
My gp has suggested I can take folic acid if I want to. Is it really nessecary for me to take folic acid, can I not try and increase my levels naturally? he doesn’t see the problem with my Vit d..... I was told previously when it was low I could buy this over the counter and they wouldn’t prescribe. I will order the mouth spray and give that a try thanks you.
I have never been tested for hasimoto, what would I need to be tested for that?
I have never had tpo or tg tested, but my dr has said he will supoort me taking ndt privately and order the bloods that I need so I will go back to him in 8 weeks and ask for those to be tested also.
B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast
Recommended brands on here are Igennus Super B complex. (Often only need one tablet per day, not two). Or Jarrow B-right
If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 5-7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if either TPO or TG Thyroid antibodies are raised - this is autoimmune thyroid disease. About 80% of primary hypothyroidism is due to autoimmune thyroid disease
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Do not take Levothyroxine dose in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take immediately after blood draw. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
