A testimony re Dr Peatfield

Came across this and it shows what other doctors think about him and what pressure he came under after studying and treating people for years. He also has hypothyroidism:-

After a lifetime of work serving his community, you might imagine the honors and accolades for such a knowledgeable thyroidologist as Dr Peatfield, yet quite the opposite happened. Dr. Peatfield’s license was suspended in 2001 at the age of 68 by the General Medical Council of England.(5-6) The GMC ruling was based on “unfavorable testimony” from competing endocrinologists who “slavishly rely on the TSH test” as a measurement of thyroid function to diagnose the low thyroid condition and monitor treatment with thyroxine. Sadly, this is the sort of “Witch Hunt “which has kept medical science in the “Dark Ages” regarding the treatment of the low thyroid condition.(13)

Dr Skinner also fell foul of the Association in the UK.

Thanks Shaws, I saw Dr Skinner in 2010, he wanted me on at least 100mcg Levo, he couldn’t prescribe or do tests, because of GMC so he advised my GP who agreed, but when my TSH dropped below 1 she warned me of heart failure and reduced my meds to 25 where I stayed for years until she stopped them. There was no point seeing him again as it was expensive, and he couldn’t prescribe. If only I knew then what I know now. It’s been and uphill struggle!

Dr Skinner's staff have worked ceaslessly since his death collating all of their Research and are hoping to publish when funds are availabe. Last year a number of members responded to their request .

I haven't heard yet whether or not it is published but the staff said it will 'shake up the endocrinology' and we all hope it does more than shake up the professionals mind-set.

Dr skinner’s Work was amazing and hopefully if the results are finally published it should make a massive difference to future treatment BUT, the Endocrinologists will have to believe in the results to agree to change the way they treat.

As far as I know, Dr Skinner was still prescribing and doing tests in 2010. Dr Peatfield took early retirement rather than fight the GMC.

Yes, Dr P did retire but resigned his Licence so that he wouldn't be struck off so he could advise patients, which he did. He might even still be doing so, despite his ill-health.

I assume there have been other doctors back then, trained properly as students, who had their licence revoked.

Dr Skinner was working until his death in November 2013 but he could still prescribe and do tests (privately) .

That’s strange. In 2010 he asked my GP to prescribe thyroxine and asked for tests to be done ready for my private appointment.

Dr Skinner would ask the gp to do the tests to save the patient having to pay for private testing.

How Dr Skinner felt when, after arranging a Conference and inviting all Endocrinologists to discuss the parlous state of patients (I believe he meant those who remained undiagnosed) despite clear symptoms and/or whose doctors wouldn't prescribe other than levo and one by one they refused - the last withdrew the day before.

Closed minds in science are a sad and shocking endictment of their owners in my view, especially where people’s health and lives are concerned. It disgusts and saddens me. 🤸🏿‍♀️

You might imagine that Dr Peatfield, Skinner, et al would be feted but this is not the case. I consulted Dr. P. and he was absolutely wonderful. I haven’t seen any posts about him recently so hope that he is still OK. I know that he was unwell a while back and sent him my best wishes at the time.

GMC is a useless institution. It often makes me angry that NHS/private practice harmed a large number of patients, who were never compensated for and are left damaged by these reckless doctors, who are after one thing i.e. money.

They are totally useless and need to be fined for their criminal practice of not doing enough to keep patients safe or doing anything whatsoever when doctors making so many serious mistakes!

In the meantime, they seem to be allocating resources on something as hugely "trivial" like this, in proportion. I seem to recall a nice GP, who was happy to offer B12 injection, was threatened by GMC. Waste of time. A mega horrible organisation, who does nothing useful for patients.

Some sort of "petition" would be highly useful.

Such an interesting post shaws , full of caring Doctors,who have done their best for the patients. Would that we had more like them.

I'm sure we'd have more sympathetic doctors if they were allowed to prescribe what suited the patient, instead of being pursued as if they were criminals when they have their patients' wellfare at heart.
