A few years ago I read Dr Peatfield's book about the Thyroid and it was like reading my life story. I contacted him and was about to make an appointment when he became ill and has subsequently retired. ( I do hope he recovered). It was very frustrating to come so close to meeting someone who I believe would have been able to help me. Does anyone know of a doctor who is either a disciple of his or treats people holistically like he did, using NDT and other techniques, but principally someone with the knowledge to diagnose and understand all the symptoms despite blood tests that my regular doctors tell me are within 'normal' ranges. I now have raised cholesterol and a complaining liver to add to the fatigue and weight gain. Thanks.

Hi and Welcome !

I saw Dr Peatfield and followed his protocol but not NDT. It was all very helpful.

What are your current test results and ranges. What is your dose ? Lots of members here are able to guide you as sadly good Docs/Endos are few and far between ..

Raised cholesterol can be linked to low thyroid - especially low T3. Same with liver.

Thanks Marz,

I appreciate your reply, I have a lot of blood test results which I'm not sure I can put up here but suffice to say I have recently been put on 50mcg a day of Levothyroxine (after a smaller dose of 25 and 50 alternate days). I don't think my doctors think that there is anything or enough wrong with me to do any more than that but am waiting for my follow up appointment with the endocrinologist, after the hepatologist didn't really help, it's a journey I realise!

All the best

Ruth

You are legally entitled to copies of your test results. Does your surgery have on-line access ? Obtaining your results IS the beginning of your journey. Members here are brilliant at understanding them and making suggestions. It will also ensure you have the right tests if you follow advice here !

It will save you time too. It is possible you could see an Endo who will organise inadequate testing and declare all is well. Most Endos are diabetic experts ...

Have you had B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD tested ?

When your dose was increased was your blood tested first ? You are still on a starter dose.

I'm not sure if this will get through but, I was lucky enough to get an appointment with Dr Peatfield in Nov 2017 - he must've been in his 80's! He got me on to Adrenavive and Metavive for thyroid. Adrenanvive was great, and I still take it. There are 3 versions, I take Adrenavive II which is more concentrated than the others. Metavive is like NDT, but is classed as a supplement, but He told to increase Metavive until I felt right - but I was nervous of doing that. It's not cheap, so I stopped taking M eventually.

I would checkout the work of Dr Sarah Myhill who is of a similar ilk to Peatfield. She has also written books on Chronic fatigue, which I got a diagnosis of after years of inadequate Thyroid treatment.

Dear Jackie

Thanks for your reply and your suggestions! I had a very brief discussion with Dr P on the phone and described my symptoms and he mentioned my adrenals so I reckon he would have prescribed adrenavive and maybe metavive too. Thanks for the tip about Dr Myhill too. I will look her up. I'd like to see a professional before I start trying anything.

Unfortunately Dr Myhill is having problems again with registration/licensing. Her website is amazing.

Dr Myhill has just been exonerated by the GMC.

Wow - thank you for the update. Great result ! Hopefully she can now live her life in peace and continue to help so many ...

One reference I read to Dr Myhill's exoneration mentioned that this was the 37th time she'd been hauled in front of the GMC, and she has won every single time.

Doctors really are a vile bunch in some ways, in my opinion. They certainly "turn on their own" with almost no provocation whatsoever.
