Everything is out of kilter again

Hello everyone, I only post on here when my health isn't great so the fact that I haven't posted for 3 years is good news. I have an underactive thyroid and b12 deficiency which I am treated for with Levothyroxine and B12 injections every 10 weeks. I've been feeling great for ages, but towards the end of last year I was very tired and run down but put it down to redundancy, job change and Christmas being busy. I was still exhausted after the Christmas break and this week went to see my doctor. I got a more positive response than I was expecting and he has tested everything. Results are back and he says everything is normal except low vitamin D which he has prescribed me tablets for. I don't know which ones as I pick them up from the pharmacy tomorrow.

I called for the actual results today and they are:

B12 - 980 (range 180-914)

Vitamin D 25 (range 30-50)

Serum ferritin .27 (range 13-150)

The receptionist couldn't see TSH or T4 listed on the results, although the doctor told me this was normal over the phone, so I don't know if this was tested or not? The receptionist also tried to tell me the range for b12 was 3.1 to something which was clearly wrong, so I'm not convinced I've got all the results correctly noted down, I'll be requesting a print out.

If it is correct the Ferritin is very low, I've read that treating B12 can deplete this, does anyone have any experience of this? I've seen that taking a Bvitamin with MethylFolate is good, but should I be questioning the doctor about this?

thanks

I think moving into jan/feb is the worst time of the year as we are probably at our lowest for vitamin D. We start making it again from March onwards when we get some sun.

Iron looks low so maybe worth checking on this. See how the vitamin D goes for a few weeks before making another change. Only alter one thing at a time so you know what is doing what.

Try get your thyroid results as these are important for you to understand where you are and you can react accordingly when you get them.

You also need folate tested

Yes always get printed copies of results and ranges

Come back with new post when you have picked them up

Vitamin D guidelines are that you should be prescribed a high, loading dose of vitamin D

Local CCG guidelines

clinox.info/clinical-suppor...

Levels should be retested at the end of loading dose

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Retesting twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk
