I am new to taking thyroid medication. I started on thyro gold 6 weeks ago, and am currently up to 600mg (2 x 300mg first thing in the morning). I have noticed some improvement - more energy, less puffiness around my face. However, I still have a long way to go.
My last set of bloods (12 months ago) were as follows:
Free T4 17.7 (9-25)
Free T3 5.2 (3.5-6.5)
TSH 1.29 (0.35-5.5)
Thyroglobulin 240 (<60)
Thyroid peroxidase 155 (<60)
Apart from the antibodies, my thyroid looks good. However, I have all the classic signs of hypothyroidism (excessive weight in the face of a very good diet, fatigue, puffy, sore joints, can't do the pinch test). And, as my doctor refused (rightly given my bloods) to provide any thyroid support I took matters into my own hands and started taking the thyro gold.
I am thinking of increasing up to 900mg but don't want to overdose. As yet I haven't noticed any adverse affects. If anyone can provide some support or guidance regarding dosage I would be hugely grateful

The doctor who invented Thyro-gold only took one blood test for the initial diagnosis and thereafter it was all about how the symptoms resolved.
I shall give you a link and if you need any answers, his widow, Tammy, will advise. Also because Thyro-gold contains more than one thyroid hormone - like other NDTs - blood results will not be the same as they were invented along with levothyroxine (T4 alone). The following information/guide is by Dr John Lowe the inventor of Thyro-gold.
Thanks shaws - the link you provided contained some great information. I will start using the additional measurements recommended by Dr Lowe and not just rely on my symptoms.
I am feeling good on the Thyro-gold and have dropped my dosage back to 300. I think that I was too impatient for my health to improve and pushed my dosage up too high. I found on the 600 that my heart rate started to pick up. The 300 seems about right - my energy is pretty good (I can get through a day without needing a nap!) and my hair has started growing back. As yet I haven't lost any weight but it has stabilised. My joints and muscles are still sore, but because my energy has picked up I have started exercising more. So, all in all, so far pretty good
