Hi everyone I started taking thyro gold and it’s changed my life. Was just wondering does coffee affect thyro gold absorption or in any other way?
Ps I had my thyroid removed 9 years ago

Thyrogold is thyroid hormone, so all the rules that apply to levo also apply to Thyroigold. That means taking it on an empty stomach and leaving at least an hour before eating or drinking anything other than water, and at least two hours before taking any other supplements or medication - sometimes four hours.
So, yes, coffee will affect absorption.
Thank you so much you are so very helpful on this site... we appreciate you help thank you 😊
Can I also thank you for this information as there is no indication on the bottle about the best time to take Thyro gold, and the naturopath advised me to take this and Thyro complex only half an hour before food.
The problem I have - and maybe Rinajudge and others too - is that some supplements need to be taken with food, so I've been taking Thyro gold/complex an hour before breakfast, then the supplements with breakfast.
Would taking the supplements with, say, only a biscuit mid morning be ok?
Also, if T3 only has a half life then presumably the effect/efficacy will only last part of the day? What about taking the second tablet during the later part of the day (although I'm only on one a day at present anyway, advised to increase to two in the winter)?
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Yes, you've been taking your supplements too close to your hormone. And it's far better to leave an hour before eating or drinking coffee.
Why not take your supplements with lunch? Or, if you must take them in the morning, why not take your Thyrogold at night, at least 2 hours after eating?
hI don't think you've quite understood what 'half-life' means. Everything has a half-life, it refers to the amount of time it takes to get out of your system. So, T4, for example, has a half-life of approx 7 days. T3 has a half-life of approx 24 hours. What that means is that 24 hours after you've taken your T3, there will be half as much left in your system. So, if you took 20 mcg T3, 24 hours later, there would be 10 mcg left. 24 hours after that, there would be 5 mcg left, etc. etc. etc.
However, that's just what's left in your blood. The T3 that gets into the cells stays there for about three days. So, it's nothing to do with the half-life if you feel you need to split your dose. You could split it, of course, but you would still need to respect the empty stomach, etc. way of taking it. Splitting the dose is a very individual thing. Some people feel better if they split it, others feel better taking it all in one go. So, you'll have to experiment to find out what's best for you.
Thank you so much - that has clarified things. Funny how you get into a particular regime and get so inveigled in it that it takes someone else to point out the obvious. Will take other supplements at lunchtime, as you suggest. And yes, I've certainly been way off beam in relation to the definition of half life!
