When the results of the radiations showed, the doctor told me that it is a large enlarged gland called the thymus gland and should be removed.

The hospital was admitted on 6 September 2018 and after the procedure and the necessary tests for the operation.

Now after two months from last surgery yesterday I did test blood to check the thyroid function as the doctor requested .

The result:

Free T3 3.53 pmol/L normal rangers 3.48-9.49.

Free T4 10.7 pmoi/L normal rangers 10-28.2.

TSH 34.9 mIu/L normal rangers. 3.48-9.46.

Comparing with my weight 120KG And age 55y.

also for you information since year 2000 I took eltroxin 100 mcg tables

Now my doctor told my we have to increase the tables dose to Eltroxin 150 mcg

Please help me with those results is right to increase the dose of my medicine correct

We do not have experience of this. However, it is correct to increase your Eltroxin as your blood tests show you are on too little. You should have another blood test in a couple of months to see if your Eltroxin dose is correct.

It sounds like your thyroid was removed because you had a goitre that was large and hindering your breathing. It is difficult to remove all of a thyroid because sone of the tissue is difficult to locate. If the surgeon tries too hard they can damage nearby tissues such as the vocal cords.

Very rarely a person can be born with the thyroid in the wrong place. For example, sometimes the thyroid can be below the tongue. It might be that some of your thyroid was below the neck and the surgeon didn't know this when they removed your thyroid. Over the years this remaining thyroid tissue could grow. Since it would be difficult to grow upwards past the bones near the neck it might grow downward towards the heart.

This is just a possible explanation, I'm not a doctor. The important thing now is that they get yiur Eltroxin dose right.

It's perfectly possibly for someone to have a substernal thyroid which extends into the mediastinum, the central compartment of the thoracic cavity containing the heart, oesophagus, thymus, lymph nodes & etc; but where you differ is that your thyroid had been removed some years before. Equally though, there are several circumstances in which normal or abnormal thyroid tissue may be found outside the thyroid gland, not just in the neck but elsewhere - thyroid tissue can even be found as a component of a teratoma, particularly in the ovaries, testicles, and tailbone for instance. There can be a number of reason for ectopic thyroid tissue arising - faulty embryogenesis for instance; hyperplastic thyroid tissue in cases of Graves’ disease; sequestered peripherally located thyroid nodule in which the anatomic connection with the main gland is either lost or missed; and accidental mechanical implantation of thyroid tissue in the neck secondary to surgical intervention or accidental trauma. Perhaps the origins of your mass was there from birth as in the first scenario, or as a result of the last scenario when you had your previous surgery, or have you experienced trauma to the area such as in a car crash, who can guess - did your surgeon give you any information?

Your blood results indicate you are currently under-medicated.

Really informative reply, thanks. Bear in mind that English is very much a second language for Oobsjoo but I believe you are essentially saying there are many reasons for thyroid tissue to be somewhere else and Oobsjoo shouldn't worry.

True medical terminology was difficult for me, but it is possible to use technology to translate meanings.
