I’ve posted before about thyroid goiter and large nodules. Gp and hospital in UK said everything is fine the lumps are benign and don’t worry. Thyroid function normal. Apart from antibodies in the 400s.
I’m visiting in-laws in Turkey and have a bad chest infection (not Covid) Non smoker and no other breathing concerns. Had a fabulous experience in the hospital seen X-rayed. Iv fluids antibiotics injections and now have orals. In and out in 4 hours, didn’t cost much have insurance though.
The A&E dr was concerned about my neck/thyroid. He brought it up. Ended up having a scan and contrast yesterday and I have huge nodules ? Lumps that I knew about and are very visible. They have extended into my chest and I have two masses the size of oranges.
They said it’s not urgent but thyroid needs taking out and the masses with it.
Any thoughts? Or advice? Should I the thyroid be removed when it’s working even though it’s growing huge lumps!
Feel very conflicted and confused as my GP and hospital have been so dismissive of me.
Thank you.

Well it would seem you saw a superior doctor in Turkey. Did you get scans in UK?
As to treatment I could not comment as no experience of this but there are people bobbing around on the forum with this experience. Will you be able to present the scan s to your doctor? Is the doctor in Turkey able to give a report?
It would seem there are a lot of things to sort out .
Are you currently on any medication and do you have any other health issues you need to take into consideration?
Also have you got any recent blood tests with ranges to share?
Your thyroid nodules have spread to your chest ….. you need this looked at pronto and don’t let these doctors push you around… Nodules that have spread to chest is not a good or normal thing and if you haven’t had a FNB they can’t say it’s benign…. I would be pissed!
Have you thought about supplementing iodine? I had a multinoduler goitre, nothing like as extensive as yours but when I started taking levothyroxine it shrank away to nothing despite a professor of endocrinology lolling me it wouldn’t. Levothyroxine tablets contain a dose of iodine too. There was somebody else on here last week who’s thyroid was struggling ie high T3 & lower T4 who also had a large goitre. She was supplementing iodine to treat it. Also stopped using soya & fluoride.
Are you eating lots of soya, soya milk? This can stop the absorption of thyroid hormones as can fluoride in toothpaste & water. Also raw cabbage, kale, broccoli etc.
You have high antibodies so have Hashimoto’s disease. Your blood tests show the same struggling thyroid, higher T3 & lower T4. To avoid having your thyroid removed maybe try supplementing with iodine. Dr Sarah Myhill has recently published a book about thyroid treatment & she strongly advocates iodine for many things. Lots of YouTube videos & an excellent website full of information
Your Vit D is seriously low. It is more readily absorbed in oil. I bought a coconut oil based supplement from Amazon which I like taking & has raised my levels very well.
Batty1 thanks for your reply. no aspiration was told not cancerous… was also told the fullness I feel is psychological… I am pissed now, I was left wondering was I imagining it!
Bertwills, thanks for all your thoughts and advice. I haven’t thought about iodine will look into this. I’m willing to try. I don’t eat any soya, I eat well not many ultra processed foods. Very Mediterranean diet lots of olive oil, nuts, cheese and butter. Toothpaste is standard with fluoride, will look into that too. No raw veg apart from carrots.
Vitamin d has been a struggle for about two years, despite at least 4 days a week walk in a T-shirt for a minimum of 30 mins. Had vit d tablets 3 different brands and now on high dose spray and dropped from 27 to 19. Have started taking it with an oil. Now taking a liquid form.
