Hi all. I am feeling tired and fed up. My blood results show my Thyroid function as “normal”!

My results are

Serum TSH 3.7

Serum free T4 level 13.

I have had this before and DR just says your normal however I don’t feel it!

Please add the reference ranges to your results so that we can interpret them. Ranges vary from lab to lab so we need your lab's results please. For example, my lab for FT4 is 7-17, so you'd be 60% through that range, but we also see 9-19 and 12-22 (you'd be 10% through range with that one).

eg TSH: 2.5 (0.2-4.2)

Also, please tell us if you are diagnosed with hypothyroidism and on Levo, if so what dose. We need to know if we are dealing with someone who is medicated but not on enough Levo, or someone who is yet to be diagnosed.

Hi, I am on levo and I take 125. The TSH range is 0.40-5.00mlU/L. T4 range 9.00-19.00pmoi/L

If you are tired and fed up you are not "normal" and possibly need to have thyroid treatment.

GPs know very little about this....odd, but true!

You have come to the right place for excellent advice.

You need to add ranges with the test results, ask at your surgery for a copy, you are legally entitled to have them so don't accept any waffle that suggests otherwise.

With that info people can begin to advise you.

You may need to optimise vit D, vit B12, Folate and Ferritin levels

Normal is not a word that applies to thyroid patients, we are all individuals with varying requirements.

You really need to have T3 tested as well but doubt your GP will agree!

Many here have tests done privately -

Sadly thyroid patients have to take control of their health as you will discover if you read posts here....you can improve!

Good luck

GPs 'assume' that if the TSH is in the normal range that it should be fine for us, the patient.

No it is not. The range for us is TSH of 1 or lower with FT4 and FT3 in the upper part o the range. Unfortunately the latter two are rarely tested. For what reason I cannot fathom.
