ACV VS LEMON JUICE

I am currently taking 40mg of omeprazole daily. I have been drinking water with lemon juice for several yrs now as well. What I would like to know is

!) If I add ACV to my diet, how much and how often to drink

2) Should I stop the omeprazole immediately

3) Should I do lemon juice with the ACV.

I am a bit confused by your post! You state you are taking 40mg of omeprazole whibch is prescribed for someone who has "high Acid" in order to lower it.

Usually someone with hypothyroidism has 'low acid' - not high.

If you've been taking omeprazole for a period I don't think it would be wise to go 'cold turkey' and stop as I'm not sure if this is the right thing to do. You should aks the pharmacist what is best (I hope he/she knows

Usually, on this forum, as 'low acid' is more commone if hypothyroid members take either ACV mixed with juice or water or take Betaine with Pepsin tablets with a meal, particularly containing protein.

Hi there

Why were you prescibed omeprazole? If it was due to any type of oesopahgitis you shouldnt be taking vinegar of any sorts. If you stop omeprazole cold turkey you will get a huge rebound amount of acid production. PPI's should be decreased slowly and steadily.

Good luck

Are you on oral steroids? If so again you really shouldn't stop Omeprazole.

Im prescribed omeprozole due to acid reflux plus i had to take loads of nsaids due to a bad injury. 10yrs later I'm trying to get off them, am only on 10mg but still the gp warned me to reduce slowly and that i would get rebound acid. So i started reducing in june/july, trying one every other day at first although that proved too fast a reduction and i was guzzling gaviscon! So i just missed one every 3 days then if i got a period of acid I'd take it each day for couple days and then reducing again. Fast forward to now and i haven't had an omeprozole tablet (or gaviscon to compensate) since last monday. Now I'm not saying I'm "off" them yet as this is a tricky thing but this is the best I've felt in the 2 months I've been trying to come off them so far.

As you are on 40mg i'd be very careful and reduce very slowly. By cutting out omeprozole yr acid will increase so im not sure if taking acv will help or make you feel worse. Whatever you decide i wish you luck x

Do you have a thyroid problem?

Are you hypothyroid? If so is it due to autoimmune thyroid disease, also called Hashimoto's and diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

As others have said, low stomach acid is more common when hypothyroid. Very often misdiagnosed as high acid. Similar symptoms, very different treatment

You can not, and must not stop suddenly. Any PPI has to be reduced very very slowly.

If hypothyroid, then getting Levothyroxine dose optimal is essential

Extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin levels. Common to be low when hypothyroid and omeprazole will often lower vitamins further

Supplementing to improve levels likely necessary

Especially B12 and magnesium

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. When on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after test. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)
