Info re my results

I just had my blood test results, I am self medicating with NDT and my results are generally going in the right direction. My questions is how can I raise my Free Thyroxine and how can I lower my Ferritin levels ( I am not taking iron supplements)?

Thanks

The question is : do you actually need to raise your FT4? It's always going to be low when taking T3. What were your results? Have you posted them?

Was your CRP tested? If you have high levels of inflammation, that could cause high ferritin. But, we need to see the results. :)

Agree with greygoose, you may not need to raise T4. Why do you want to?

my t4 and TSH is on the bottom of the ranges, TSH in the 0.002 and I feel not too bad. I self medicate with NDT. if you feed your body with t3, the body gets what the body needs and didn't care much about getting lots of t4.

slightly tired, sorry, I hope I made sense?

Don’t worry about your ft4. What’s your FT3? Is it at the top of its range?

Thanks all, I've been having private blood tests and this time there was a suggestion to keep an eye on ft4 as it is a bit low and also to check Ferritin as it is very high, CRP is low.

TSH 2.69 mIU/L 0.27 - 4.20

FT4 * 8.800 pmol/L 12.00 - 22.00

FT3 4.68 pmol/L 3.10 - 6.80

CRP 1.38 mg/l 0.00 - 5.00

FERRITIN * 617 ug/L 13.00 - 150.00

I read on previous posts that you were supplementing with iron. How much for how long and when did you stop?

Can't really remember Missimal I was prescribed them for a few years because every time I came off them my levels dropped drastically, I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy and no problems found apart from a few ulcers. I haven't been taking iron for probably about 2 years or so

Hmmm ... I suggest you see your GP about the ferritin. They should follow it up if you’ve had previous issues with iron.

Mine is elevated but not to your level

Hi

If it was me I’d increase my ndt. I always monitor temps with a basal thermometer to ensure temp are near to 36.50 as possible. You take the average and if there is any difference of more than 0.3 that indicates your adrenals are not functioning well. Any temps below 36.50 means you are on insufficient meds.

Personally I’d increase until I felt really well and the temps were spot on. Ideally your free t4 should be in range and t3 higher too.

I’d certainly be speaking to a gp re ferretin being so high.

Best wishes

Thanks Howard. I take my temperature first thing in the morning and it usually ranges between 35.1 and 35.6. I've never done the average, I will do that. My adrenals are way way too high! Dr has been uninterested in ferritin levels!

Hi

Apologies I deleted this in error

Temps are lower first thing but that v low- a good 1 degree out so room to increase your ndt. You should do 8 per day for 4 days if increasing your dose.

( see Sarah Myhill.com under orchestra- it’s a good read with a chart etc)

Please could I ask which is high your dhea or cortisol?

Best wishes

Sorry I am concerned re ferretin being so high. I think you need a referral just to be sure.

Yes inflammation is possible but so is a blood storage issue.

Ok Howard, I will make another appointment.

Hi, I will check that out, thank you.

These are my recent results for antibodies. They are much better than they were, last year when they were both >4000.

THYROGLOBULIN ANTIBODY * >4000 IU/mL 0.00 - 115.00

THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES * >600 IU/mL 0.00 - 34.00

Blimey that’s crazy.

If you look at the link it will confirm diet is vital

Then absorbtion

Vitamins being optimal

Then thyroid and adrenals meds.

Hope you are gluten free with low carb high fat( coconut and advocado) diet.

Do you have your adrenal results?

Your gp needs a stick not a prod!

Oh silly me, when I said adrenals earlier I meant antibodies. I've never had my adrenals tested.

Well at least you can monitor them from your temps.

They need to be within 0.3 degrees of the average.

I’d be surprised if they weren’t affected with those results.

Hi doluph

Are you 100% gluten free?

I’m wondering if you have ever been tested for Coeliac disease?

Your antibodies levels are concerning especially as they have remained high for +2yrs.

Damage from coeliacs will lower absorption of thyroid medication.

Hi there is no point being tested. If you’ve thyroid antibodies you must go gluten free.

I agree 👍

Hi Missimal and Howard39, yes I have been gluten free for 5 or 6 years.

Well that’s good, GF is a must for you

The only other thing I can recommend is Selenium it help reduce my antibodies by 75% in 5 months

I take Selenium, Zinc and Magnesium. I think the Selenium has helped as one of my levels has come down a bit.
