Magnesium for sleep 💤

Going to try it as the relaxation music and rain storms aren’t working

One hours sleep twice this week and next day is a total wipe out

Such a struggle with the array of symptoms that present themselves with hyperthyroidism 😩

Have you had vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin tested?

Low vitamin D is often common with autoimmune thyroid disease and can badly affect sleep. Also low B vitamins are then more likely

drgominak.com/sleep/vitamin...

Supplementing magnesium is good first step as it often helps vitamin D improve

But if not had vitamin levels tested suggest you ask GP asap or test privately

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3 plus TPO and TG thyroid antibodies and also very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. If eventually on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)

Presumably you have Graves' disease

Have you tried strictly gluten free diet?

Ideally ask GP for coeliac blood test first

Waiting for antibodies test result at mo

I have been taking vitamin D3 5000iu daily for a few months now

Have slept well past couple of nights after taking magnesium citrate tablets

Not sure what dosage to take but started off on 600mg

Hi just seen a comment on the root cause protocol site about a marine magnesium by Together. I read Dr Myhill and follow her guidance on sleep which has really helped me - good luck

I've also started taking magnesium for poor sleep (also have hyperthyroidism) together with 5HTP. I tried magnesium some time ago (to help with depression as well as insomnia and headaches) but found it quite rough on the stomach. But the supplement I've just recently started at the suggestion of my doctor is Megamag night formula (amazon.co.uk/MegaMag-Night-... and I have to say that although I do wake in the night around 3 times or so the quality of sleep is just so much better and no stomach effects. As the name suggest, night is better. I avoid lumps by adding some hot water first and then add cold. I don't do soothing music, I grab something off BBC Radio 4 iplayer such as a comedy show. There's obviously no plot to grip you, just the sound of voices. I don't really try to follow it and often I drop off within 30 minutes or so. I hope you find something that works for you soon. Hang on in there.

Great to have all this information available! Thank you.

I’ll try the magnesium first.
