hello!
I’m looking for a recommendation for a magnesium supplement.
What brands would you recommend?
I’d like to take a mix of the different forms to cover all bases but just don’t know if there’s a trusted brand with you.
Thanks in advance.

I take magnesium malate by biocare.Magnesium needs to be taken 4 hours from levo.
I like ReMag by Dr Carolyn Dean. It's a liquid form so it absorbs well and you can take as much or as little as you need. You can buy it from Botanica Health in Tunbridge Wells, or from Amazon which is fulfilled by Botanica.

That Magnesium supplement looks fab but it is a bit pricey for me. How long do you find a bottle lasts?
It can last me at least 6 months. I seem to be ultra sensitive to a lot of minerals and supplements, so try to avoid tablets, capsules etc., so this liquid is perfect for me.
Do you take it for constipation?
Not specifically although magnesium does help with constipation. Especially Mag citrate! My main reasons for taking it is to help ease muscle pain and tenseness, help my sleep, and because it's a necessary cofactor of Vitamin D and I take a fairly large amount of Vit D so have to supplement magnesium. That said I haven't purchased this great looking brand yet and still have some Igennus magnesium left over.
If you want to know the uses for various magnesium supplements this link is helpful :

For constipation, magnesium citrate is the best one. There are other forms of magnesium supplement which are laxatives but people don't absorb the magnesium very well, which ruins the point of it.

Hi I just went to buy this and noticed a lot of reviewers complained of being poorly when taking it. They mention this contains lead - above the safety levels the FDA (US regulatory body) recommend. Just wondered if you knew anything about it please?
The business about mentioning lead content is to do with the law in California concerning naturally occurring carcinogens in all products sold. The list of carcinogens is regularly updated and any product with amounts above a certain ratio, which if taken over a lifetime can cause cancer, have to be mentioned. There are different opinions about the law and why it only applies to California though. Here are the links about it on the ReMag website, the current ReMag Certificate of Analysis and some other links. Personally the amount of lead in ReMag doesn't worry me as the upper level mentioned in the law is when taken over a lifetime, and there's probably more lead in drinking water in parts of the UK with old pipework, although I don't actually drink tap water.
ReMag doesn't make me feel ill at all, but some supplements have done (which is why I use liquid or powder supplements now), so I always mix it with a glass of water, and drink it over half an hour or so, I don't drink it neat and the instruction also tell you to build up from a small dose to start with.

LunaDancer,
I too like pico-ionic ReMag. I add it to my exercise juice bottle and spray it on my knee that hurts after walking a long way 😁
I’ve been using XSpan Labs magnesium Citrate from Amazon for quite a while. Previously I used FutureYou Magnesium +. They will send you one for the price of postage if you ask them. I changed because it contains vitamin B6 which I didn’t particularly want.
I use to use ReMag - very good. An acquired taste …..I found I got use to it
I now use Thorne Magnesium citramate

Large capsules …..empty into a cup and add water - no strong taste. Take afternoon or evening at least 4 hours away from levothyroxine or T3
Is it better to add the powder to water like you do than just take the capsule? I worry about my teeth with acidic powders.
magnesium isn’t acidic

Rinse your mouth out after if worried
I have osteoarthritis especially in my knees, when I have a shower every morning, if possible I use Magnesium oil joint spray for my knees, unfortunately only short term, but any relief is good👍
If you're looking for a combination of different magnesium's as they all have different benefits, I take this from Amazon..Triple Magnesium Complex, 60 Tablets, 2000mg Magnesium Glycinate, Magnesium Citrate & Magnesium Taurate, Chelated Magnesium Supplements, 262mg Elemental Magnesium Tablets, 30 Servings, by Igennus
It's not the brand but the type that's important as there are 5 or 6 different formulations. I use magnesium bisglycinate, magnesium oxide, the most common, can have unpleasant side effects, especially your stomach.
Too right. Magnesium oxide is awful. They dump it in a lot of products as tick box, if I find a supplement contains magnesium oxide, I dump the entire thing.
I've found that Better You sensitive mag. oil spray suits me well. On offer direct from Better You at the moment. Best wishes
I take Neutrient Magnesium, it’s 2 small capsules a day, it contains, Citrate, Bisglycinate, Taurate, Malate and oxide… I also use Neom magnesium butter at bedtime also and have non smelling spray oil.
Other than joint/muscular pain with no arthritis, constipation is my main symptom of thyroid disease along with possible weight problems, but never really blamed thyroid for that.
Magnesium threonate is actually better than glycinate versions if wanting more cognitive function.
I take Solgar … Free of any extra stuff.
British supplements magnesium
5 Greens clean magnesium glycinate - not tried other forms
I take ones by Purolab, I have their other supplements and get on well with them.
I use these because they’re a complex and are additive-free
Vitamin Express Synergy powder complex (not the capsules as these contain additives)
Vegavero Multi Magnesium capsules
Do they work? No idea but ask me in a few days’ time. Have done a BH test mainly for zinc and copper but it also included magnesium. Hopefully the magnesium is the one that gives a fairly good reflection of what’s going on but I can never actually remember if that ought to be a serum test
Seaside Susie often gives advice on vitamins and she once mentioned Doctors Best high absorption Magnesium Lysinate Glycinate 100% chelated as having a good level of magnesium content. The dosing is four tablets a day = 400mg. Bottle size 120 tablets lasts one month.
I just bought some on I-herb
Magnesium with Health Aid there r 3 they r good
Because supplemental amounts of magnesium are physiological, it's also generally not too difficult to get the same amounts or more via diet with some forethought if you prefer to meet your needs that way. (Personally I only miss the mark and have to supplement once a week or so.) Some dietary sources mentioned here: healthunlocked.com/thyroidu....
Dark Chocolate is another easy and delicious source (though many brands are contaminated with heavy metals like cadmium: consumerreports.org/health/....
edit: If the latter link doesn't work, you can find it by googling "Consumer Reports Lead and Cadmium Could Be in Your Dark Chocolate"
