Hi

Not sure if I want advice or just a moan.

Partial thyroidectomy at 29, menopause at 39. Usual hypothyroid symptoms...weight gain, insomnia, aches, pains, no energy, headaches...I could go on. 😂

Basal temperature average of 35.9!!!

TSH 1.6

FT4 11.4

FT3 4.8

Now developed high blood pressure. Apparently I don’t need to see an Endo and ‘waste their time’

*bangs head on desk*

Anyway, I’m going private, emailed for the list and am ringing in the morning.

Thanks for reading 😘

Are you on thyroid 'meds', or any other drugs, supplements?

I’m not on anything as there’s. Nothing wrong with my thyroid, it’s just the menopause silly! 🤣

:O yep the fact that my thyroid was removed, it didnt sway my gp into thinking my very sudden and drastic decline after TT was anything other than age, menopause, depression etc When i went for 2nd opinion with Dr Peatfield he said it was only due to my high levels of fitness i was still alive. No thyroid and no thyroid meds for 5 years. It is apparently all in our head. I went back to see GP few months later, looking very different from the gibbering wreck he turned me onto and he said.....omg dont tell me it really was your thyroid, you look so well, what has changed? errrr im on ndt you idiot!!! couldnt make it up could you xx

Can you add the ranges on these

Your FT4 looks like it is rock bottom and FT3 not far behind

Are you on Levothyroxine? If so, what dose

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4, TT4, FT3

Plus very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or vitamins

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. If on Levothyroxine, don't take in the 24 hours prior to test, delay and take straight after. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, GP will be unaware)

I’m not allowed to have the ranges as I apparently don’t need them as I’m within range.

Honestly if I didn’t laugh I’d cryb

You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results

UK GP practices are supposed to offer online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need enhanced access to see blood results.

In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet

Suggest you ask to speak to the practice manager and point this out. Request a printed copy including the ranges or online blood test results

Ask for a print out of your results, the ranges should be on there. They can't refuse, it's your legal right, nor can they charge for it.

If this is the attitude of your Gp surgery not surprised you are cross etc. Many of us have gone DIY re our own thyroid health: get private full thyroid tests ( with ranges) for TSH, T4, FT4, FT3, autoimmune antibody tests, plus Vit D, B12, folate and ferritin. Then post results here for good knowledgeable advice here, self supplement etc, even buy our own thyroid 'meds'. Being proactive is good for wellbeing!

I know this happens to me. But nowadays I absolutely insist on a printout and it’s so easy for them just to press print!

Well, I requested a printout of my blood work. Told a doctor would have to approve it and it would take a couple of days. Phoned two days later was told it was in the doctors inbox... could I phone later. So, I went in this morning.... they have no idea what I’m talking about regarding a printout of my blood work... but I’m to reduce taking levothyroxine... really frustrated. So, now hopefully I can get a copy tomorrow.
