Reading your comments about how many hours apart meds should be taken before having new blood tests ran seems very important, why on earth would let’s day my Dr. not even mention this to me. I pay out of pocket for all these tests and doc visits, I need to be on point as much as possible the first go around.. errrr. I am 48 yrs old, grandmother and mother had major thyroid issues. I at 35 miscarried two babies after they hearing their heart beat for a few weeks. My progesterone was too low. They did an autopsy on the one and said she was a healthy baby girl and that it just wasn’t meant to be. I don’t get that but while this was all going on my best friend, my mother had a horrible case of RA that started at 50 yrs old and at times pain was so bad we had to rush her to the ER. Anyway, the RA and the years of those horrible meds had attacked her heart and lungs. She was in the dieing for 2 yrs on hospice and I was 35-36 yrs old taking care of her, moved her in with me, working, while I had caregivers at my home... watching her die for two years at which started at 58 yrs old. Two months before she passed my husband of only 1.5 yrs left me by letting me know via email. It’s been 10 yrs now and I’ve been extremely depressed, stressed to no end, full of anxiety attacks and still mourning the loss of basically my whole family within an 8 yrs span all died. Now I know having high non stop stress for that many years can take a toll on the body. I am in constant flight or fight - anti depressants take the edge off but for 10 yrs I get about 4 hours sleep a night. I’ve been on lunesta 3 mg for 10 yrs or more actually. Prob 12 since my working and stress started when she got terminally ill. Lack of sleep and high levels of constant stress for 12 yrs is not good right? Back at 35 I had my thyroid and hormones checked by an natural hormone dr. She said after my test results came in, she didn’t know how the heck I was functioning (her words). Now, who knows if she tells all her patients that so they pay for all their natural hormone meds and keep seeing her, she doesn’t take insurance or if it was legit. I was too young and too much going on to ask to see results, I just knew I was gaining a huge amount of weight, the loss of babies and already knowing my body wasn’t producing enough progesterone so I went on natural thyroid and hormones because I was estrogen dominant. It took a bit to get dosages worked out and out of nowhere I kept having to go buy a new pair of pants each week because of the loss of weight, which was awesome. I am 5 feet and always weighted between 98-110 and I was close to 150. I dropped back down to a size 2-4.

Then at times I would get really puffy and my hands would be so swollen in the mornings and hurt, I would have to put them in a bowl of ice and water. The humidity in the air made my while body swell even more. So uncomfortable. Not sure if the natural progesterone at times was too much or I have a reaction to any kind or dosage of it because fast forward to present at 48, (I for some reason back maybe 6-7 yrs ago stopped seeing that doc and went off meds but went on amour thryriod medicine. Oh and my vitamin D has always been around 23-25. Since 2014ish I’ve been off all thyroid meds. I was told by my therapist I was ADHD not the hyper one but the other... made sense at the time because I was a poor student in school, couldn’t focus or retain anything. Anyway, he put me on 20 milligrams and my work, my depression and outlook on my day to day living and functioning was amazing. I felt I was living again, so au slowly started to drop the weight I had again gained and slowing went off my Zoloft. Stayed on my lunesta. I am still on 20 to 30 milligrams of generic Aderall. Another huge life altering event happened a few yrs ago and wanted to just die... body, joints hurt, weight issues, isolating myself, literally just wanted to be in heaven every day to be with my family and see this babies I lost. My career I loved and was my world was horrible and so on. Thought I was going to be in a shelter and scared, lonely and never been in that situation. Always had been very independent since 18, had owned 3 homes on my own, making six figures without a degree starting at 36 and then facing being homeless and no emotional support system. Anyway, a Dec 2017 I went to OBGN for an exam and asked to have my thyroid and hormones checked because it ran in my family and I had issues yrs back. So she did, vitamin D was 23, she only tested Tsh, T4, T3 and Free T3

And my progesterone and estrogen. She said progesterone and Estrogen were in normal range (Didn’t test during any particular time of my monthly cycle), and that I needed to be on 80 milligrams of leveroxine (spelling is wrong but u get it). I read and researched all the numbers and knew I WAS showing estrogen dominant and not enough test I felt were ran for Thyroid and started gaining huge amount of weight on that thyroid med. like out of control and here she said I would be dropping weight. Still taking my Aderall, etc.

I went to another doc and she looked at those test and said oh yeah, you r for sure estrogen dominent and I should be on a med with both T3 and T4. Also was given a prescription of 50,000 of vitamin D to take once a week. She put me on generic amour at 60 milligrams and a low dosage of 100 mil of generic progesterone until I do a saliva hormone test. I take the progesterone for 15 days then get my period and then start it again 13 days after my cycle started. I’ve only been on it for one cycle so far. Pharmist said 100 is really low so I’m sure it’s not doing anything. But oh did the hand swelling start in my hands all of a sudden and I thought what the heck, then realized it must be the progestrone. Lord what if I need 200’or 300 once I get the new saliva test back. Anyway, I’ve been on amour generic for just shy of a month and haven’t noticed any weight gain or loss. Oh and all these years my hair has gotten so thin and dry I have to wear a few extensions, chucks of hair will fall down my leg in the shower and at first I thought it was soap suds. I’ve heard Aderall can affect your hair but so can thyroid and female hormones and low vitamin D. Seems no matter what I take for the D it doesn’t help. I know it’s a long rant but any thoughts on any of this going back to even the amount of stress and lack of sleep for 12 yrs. oh, I also tend to get really light headed like I am going to pass out, it’s scary when living alone or driving. It just comes out of nowhere. Not sure about the synthetic thyroid I am on vs natural or the generic progesterone vs natural and all the other crapola. I tell my doc, I am getting older and I need help. This is taking a toll on my friendships, my work, who I am is gone, not sleeping still blah blah

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope someone replies to me.

Your post is a bit long and confusing Takoma...... perhaps if we simplify it you might get more replies. Have you the actual results with ranges for your thyroid tests( TSH, FT4, FT3, total T4, autoimmune antibodies)? And blood results for Vitamin D, B12, folate and ferritin levels with units of measurement? And to save forum readers from sorting out details from your long post tell us again how much and type of thyroid medication you are on ( levothyroxin, armour) , with dates, related to blood test results.

What a terrible journey you have had, so sad and no help when you were crying out for it. I really hope we can help you get your life back.

We have found that vitamin and mineral levels are as port and as thyroid medication as they work together but like anything else in the Thyroid world there work slowly and it can take time and may be several adjustments to get where you want and need to be.

The most important things that help your thyroid to work better are Vit D, B12, folate and ferritin so if you can post the latest test you had for those and the ranges and say when they were taken.

Can you also post your latest thyroid results and the ranges and when you had them taken. That will at least give us an idea of what is happening. Ranges are always most important has difference labs have different ranges so without them we should just be guessing. Let's hope we can get you on the road to wellness!
