Hi all just an update on my bloods that I said I would post for any advice

Iron 12.6

Spoke to the nurse she didn’t give me range for iron but said my b12 is slightly high and that I shouldn’t be taking supplements

So confused

Your B12 is perfect. Ignore the nurse's comment and maybe find a maintenance dose now that keeps your level where it currently is. I reduced mine from 7 days a week to 4 or 5 days a week.

Can't comment on iron without a range. Plus serum iron in isolation isn't the full picture. Ferritin? Total iron binding capacity (TIBC)? Transferrin Saturation?

Thanks for your reply I read online it can be cause of liver cancer 🙁

A bit worried thanks for getting back

Well I don't know about that but an extract from the book, "Could it be B12?" by Sally M. Pacholok:

"We believe that the 'normal' serum B12 threshold needs to be raised from 200 pg/ml to at least 450 pg/ml because deficiencies begin to appear in the cerebrospinal fluid below 550".

"For brain and nervous system health and prevention of disease in older adults, serum B12 levels should be maintained near or above 1000 pg/ml."

When people have B12 injections it can go very high over range at the time, then falls again before the next one.

Wildgeese,

Your B12 is high because you are supplementing and excess will be excreted in urine.

It is high B12 without supplementing which can indicate underlying health issues, usually kidney or liver problems.

Thanks clutter I haven’t really been taking my vit b for about two weeks before test

Wildgeese,

Doesn't matter. You would have to stop supplementing for 4 months before you get a baseline result.

Don;t worry about B12, you can't really overdose, but you might be able to reduce supplements of mine goes below 1000 (same range as yours) I get low B12 symptoms. Can't comment on iron without range

Your TSH needs to be under 1, so it wouldn't surprise me if your free T4 and free t3 were rock bottom and that would cause lots of symptoms. How come your TSH is so high?

in reply toAngel_of_the_North

Yea t3 is 3.2

T4 is 19

My t3 was stopped in September

QED. Your free t3 is not at least 67% of the way through the range, therefore you feel dire. You need your T3 back - you aren't converting. Just give up on GP and buy your own.

Thanks for your help much appreciated
