Tests results

Hi everybody, seems a long time since I was on here but do read posts regularly.

I need some help with test results please as I am most concerned with my increased symptoms of palpitations and feeling extremely cold which my Dr says he has no answer for even though my thyroid test results are not normal.

I am in Australia so will have to give the normal in brackets for results here. Thank you in advance for your help.

T4 10.2 normal ref range ( 9.0 0-- 25.0 )

TSH 0.21 ( 0.50 - 5.00 )

T3 4.2 ( 3.5 - 6.5 ).

My TSH is very low but he wasn't concerned about this so am wondering if I should be? I had Radioactive Iodine treatment 10 years ago now and had no medication for at least 6 years after that and am really puzzled as to why I was not needing any medication during that period of time? It does seem odd doesn't it, as most here that I have read about who had this treatment were put straight on medication. I have stopped seeing my Endocrinologist as he was rude, and would not let me have NDT even though Thyroxine was giving me side effects, and he even mocked me because I told him that the Pharmacist said I was not to have anything to eat for an hour after taking it and no milk or anything containing Calcium for at least 2 hours. He laughed at me and told me that his wife was on Thyroxine and that he used to give his wife her doze every morning with a cup of tea containing milk to swallow it ?? Its a concern to me that he could be this negligent so stopped seeing him as he lost my trust. Thank you for helping me as I feel really concerned.

No, you don't need to be concerned about your TSH. Once you are on thyroid hormone replacement, it is irrelevant, unless it goes high. Doesn't matter how low it goes.

What you should be concerned about is your FT3, because that's still a bit low - well below mid-range, whereas most people need it up the top of the range to feel well.

Your ex-endo does sound extremely ignorant, but that doesn't surprise me. I just feel sorry for his poor wife! :(

thank you so much for that Greygoose, I always know I can depend on you replying with good advice. I was wondering if this Endo wasn't hoping for a short marriage. Will my T3 go up in time do you think as I have only just started a higher doze.

If the higher dose is enough for you, it will go up, yes. But, you might still need further increases in the future. :)

Bet his wife chucked it down the loo when he wasn't looking. Anyway he is wrong.

My doctor told me the same thing. Not about his wife but that other patients all took their levothyroxine with food and drink, so all his patients were probably ill and on anti-d's which was his best suggestion for all thyroid disorders. Got a new doctor now.
