Hi. I have just been to the doctor's to discuss the blood results I recently posted on here. I'm getting celiac test done and he has put me on vitamin D. He said to take a multivitamin to improve my folate level. He thinks my symptoms are down to taking too much levothyroxine, he said I should reduce it and see how it affects my symptoms. I said I was concerned it would make my TSH go even higher but he said because the levothyroxine was probably causing my diarrhea, gut issues, anxiety and feeling hot... I wasn't able to absorb my medication and so reducing it might help my TSH. He said that an endo would say the same and that T3 medication wasn't an option.

Well, I've heard some gobbledegook in my time, but that takes the biscuit! 🤣
Not a word of sense in it.
He said to take a multivitamin to improve my folate level.
I think he means a B complex. Multivits are not recommended for many reasons. But, make sure your B complex has methylfolate, not folic acid. Thorne Basic B and Igennus are good ones.
Yes I really don't know what to do now. I questioned him about the multivitamins, he definitely meant just standard multi's. I said I was concerned as my iron was already high and I didn't want to take a multivitamin that contained that.
So, just take a B complex. There's no obligation to do what any doctor tells you - especially if you know better! Remember, doctors know nothing about nutrients. You'd probably do better asking a random strange in the street! lol
And I bet he didn't tell you that you absolutely need to take magnesium with vit D, did he? The two work together so need to be taken together. And you also need to take vit K2-MK7 with it.
I think it might be a good idea to reduce your levo a little - but not for the reasons your doctor gives! But, it might just improve your conversion slightly. Worth a try, anyway.
He didn't mention taking the magnesium or K2, the strange thing is my magnesium level is high 1.14 (0.66-0.99)
Magnesium testing is unreliable due to the way the body handles it. you can have good levels in the blood but still be deficient. And most people are deficient, anyway, because soils are depleted. But even if you aren't deficient, taking vit D will use up all your magnesium. So, best to take it, anyway. If your kidneys are working normally, any excess will be excreted.
