Thyroid Results. Advice on meds. and dosing please.

Hi

I changed back to levothyroxine seven weeks ago. I had been taking 2 grains of W.P. Thyroid previously but did not find much improvement over levothyroxine.

Before W.P. Thyroid I was taking 125mcg. levo. and felt O.K. but felt there was room for improvement. My Doctor then reduced to 100mcg. levo. because of low TSH and I felt worse, she would not increase the dose again but wrote to an endo. for advice. I did not hear anymore so decided to give NDT a try.

After several weeks I heard from the Doctor to say the endo. said it would be O.K. to go back to 125mcg. levo. As I had already started taking the NDT I decided to carry on with it .I had a difficult time raising the NDT but eventually settled on 2 grains.

In May this year I started with eczema and hives which I have not had before and wondered if it had anything to do with my thyroid or the NDT. There was then the problems with W.P. Thyroid been out of stock so I decided to go back to levo.

I have been taking 125mcg. for six weeks when I had my levels checked through Medichecks.

I took my last dose of levo. approx. 23 hours before blood test and fasted for approx. 9 hours.

Thyroid Function

THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE *0.014 mIU/L 0.27 - 4.20

FREE THYROXINE 19.4 pmol/L 12.00 - 22.00

TOTAL THYROXINE(T4) 91.4 nmol/L 59.00 - 154.00

FREE T3 5.04 pmol/L 3.10 - 6.80

THYROGLOBULIN ANTIBODY 103.000 IU/mL 0.00 - 115.00 (up from 95.7 on last test)

THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES 20.8 IU/mL 0.00 - 34.00

(down from 32.2 on last test)

I still have some hypo. symptoms, mainly fatigue, anxiety, mind racing, and constipation.

Do you think from my results I should increase my levo. (another Doctor in the surgery I have since seen has said he treats by symptoms, so I could possibly get an increase) or should I add some T3 which I do have in the cupboard which I purchased.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Many thanks.

Lucylocks,

TSH is suppressed, FT4 is high in range and FT3 is a little shy of the upper third of range. As you are symptomatic I would add a little T3, say 6.25mcg which will raise FT3 but hopefully not over range.

Have thyroid antibodies ever been over range?

Thank you Clutter,

antibodies when tested have never been over range.

when on NDT the peroxidase ab. rose from 27 to 32.2 which is just under range.

Lucylocks,

Very borderline. It might be worth trying gluten-free after Christmas/NYear for 3-4 weeks to see whether constipation improves and whether antibodies drop.

I went GF for ten weeks, I did find my stomach bloating improved, but in those ten weeks I suffered with three bouts of really severe diarrhea and awful low stomach pains ( I have never had it so bad) At first I thought it was a tummy bug but when it happened the third time I thought it could not be.

It had only happened since going GF so went back to eating it and it has not happened since.
