I suggest considering haem (heme) or ferritin supplements.

I use Solgar gentle iron.

I had been using solgars gentle iron too but changing to try ferrograd c as my ferritin levels have lowered with solgars as i think my body is not absorbing it. But alot of people use solgars its nice and easy on the tummy.

Any idea why you not absorbing Solgar or is it a general absorbing problem?

I dont know at present but i will have to see how i go on new iron tablets- it maybe because i am celiac and it is known for destroying vitamins etc. It will be something the doc will look into if it is the same later.xx

Veganicity suited me but I came on here to post about iron having received a call from my Consultant yesterday that alerted me to the fact that the body can only take up 15 mg per day of, eg, ferrous fumarate. Here's a link I found about potential harm while looking up to see if I'd mis-heard since I am prescribed 280 mg per day and in nearly 2 years my levels have barely improved.

That sounds interesting, do you have the link, please? I've been wondering why so many people have reported similar experiences to you in which oral supplementation just isn't shifting their levels over time.

My consultant always reminds me of the need to take in adequate vitamin C for the iron to be taken up, but I expect you know that.

There was a woman in ‘Doc Martin’ last night who had taken too much iron and overdosed herself.
