Hello,my Endo put me on 30mg of t3 and reduced my thyroxine to 50mcg,.I was originally on 100mcg only. This was in August, never felt better after nearly 2years of feeling awful.I have Hashi,s and have been on gluten free diet for months now.Last week I started to feel unwell again,.I just wondered if coming of my Antidepressants would make any difference,I'm been coming off slowly, still taking half every other day, been on them for 2years Endo suggested I should come off of them which I was happy about, seeing as I was only put on them due to having Hashi,s and my thyroid levels were all over the place. My latest blood test is:

Serum free T4 level 15.1(7.9-20)

TSH. 0.47(0.34-5.60)

Free T3 5.1(4.00-6.60)

Also have to take Aspirin every day, would that affect anything.

Hi Sylus, sorry you are not feeling well. Have you heard of the Paleo Autoimmune Protocol or AIP? I have Hashimoto's and have been following the Protocol for over a year and am feeling much better. It is a lifestyle program for people with autoimmune diseases aimed at gut healing, reducing inflammation and antibodies. It starts with a strict exclusion diet at the beginning and then foods are reintroduced slowly to see which ones cause problems. It promotes eating organ meats (yes, I know...), bone broth and fermented drinks and food. If you want further information there are some good websites: Paleo Mom, Autoimmune Wellness and Phoenix Helix. Eileen Laird has written a good book called 'A Simple Guide to the Paleo Autoimmune Protocol'.

In terms of your mental wellbeing, Kelly Brogan is a functional psychiatrist, who also promotes diet as a way of healing. Most serotonin, for example is not produced in the brain, but in the gut. Here is a link to her site:

Well done for deciding to come of the antidepressants.

Anti-depessants can interract with thyroid medication so reducing meds may mean you will become slightly under or over medicated so you may need to adjust thyroid medication.

You must also check vitamin levels as these can often be low in people with thyroid conditions.

Make sure you do not take any other meds for 4 hours after taking levothyroxine. I don't know whether aspirin could affect the gut but it won't do any harm to look into probiotics to improve gut function which will also improve absorption of nutrients.
