Cortisol results, how does this fit with potential secondary hypothyroidism?

Hi,

I've posted a couple of times before but have just got the results of my 24 hr saliva test. I've been struggling for a few years with a variety of symptoms, posted on here and the general consensus is secondary hypothyroidism as TSH = .35, t4 = 12.4 as well as low ferritin, folate, vit B12, vitD etc. My doctor randomly tested cortisol after I told her that I go all jittery after drinking liquorice tea.

Early morning blood cortisol 350, ref should be >500

I decided to do private 24 hr saliva testing as still no endo appointment, results of which are:

nmol/L

1st sample post awake: 14.07 ref range (2.68-9.30)

2nd sample: 2.37 (.75-2.93)

3rd sample: 1.02 (.36-1.88)

4th sample: 0.39 (<=.94)

DHEA: cortisol ratio 0.06 (0.05-.32)

DHEA sample 1 = 1.07 (.25-2.22) I'm assuming this is from the first morning sample.

I'm currently googling like mad but wondered if anyone had any thoughts/ experience or can point me in the right direction of some good research. From what I've gathered so far blood cortisol is bound and saliva unbound but are these results this indicative of early stage adrenal fatigue and could this be linked to the low TSH, low T4?

Still waiting for NHS appointment with endo.

Thanks :)

Yes, GP seems unconcerned by anything and ignores symptoms - one even suggested somatization disorder! I'm currently supplementing to try to raise ferritin, vitamins etc but have no idea if it's working.

I feel better some days and rubbish others. Tbh I'm like a yo-yo, manic some days and then like a slug the other days.

I'm confused as to the whether the adrenals are impacting the thyroid or vice versa. From reading on here I'm not holding out much hope that the NHS endo will be any good at figuring it out either.

Appreciate your reply reallyfedup :)

Thanks RFU... Yes, already taking high dose vit c but not in divided doses, might try that. Taking vitamin D (10,000u), folic acid, slow release iron, vit K twice a week, vit B12 every day, kelp, selenium and calcium every other day or two. Magnesium every night.

Gave up sugar a year ago including bread, pasta, white potatoes etc. Drink goats milk kefir every morning, vile stuff but definitely helps, don't drink alcohol much, if at all, and don't eat meat - get plenty of protein via beans, pea powder, hemp powder etc.

I'm was gluten free but have been a bit lax lately so will try that again. Was tested for coeliac but had only started eating gluten two weeks before the test.

Going to get private thyroid tests covering all avenues to get the full picture. Will report back once I've done that. Appreciate your time RFU :)
