I need help with my cortisol results.

I’ve just got my urine 24 hour test results. They say they are to low. 22 (55-138).

My blood cortisol was 983 (113-456)

My saliva cortisol was 8am 8.30 (2.68-9.30)

12.30pm 6.57 (0.75-2.93)

4.25pm 6.15 (0.36-1.88)

11pm 3.81 ( <=0.94)

How can they all be high but the urine is too low. I’m now confused. Can you help me understand.

I’ve just done another 24 hour urine test and waiting for the results. I had it done at the hospital this time.

From what I understand, the 24 h urine analysis is not reliable diagnostic tool as it won´t tell if cortisol levels are sometimes high and sometimes low (which often happens in various stages of adrenal fatigue). The 24 h urine test simply gives you an average over a 24 h period, but no way to tell if cortisol levels are low in the morning and high in the evening (the opposite of what they are supposed to be). So not sure how valid the results are, to be honest. I think the results of the 24 h saliva test are more valid, and hope more members will comment.

Yes the saliva test is next on the list. The argument is that my high blood cortisol might be due to being on the contraceptive pill.

Who said that your high cortisol might be the result of being on the pill...your doctor?

I don´t know how oral contraception and cortisol levels interact, sorry. What does your doctor say?

Yes that’s what the Endo told me. I did google it and they say it can be a cause of high blood cortisol.

in reply toRedporti

If so, what does your endo suggest...?
