Nature Throid Advice Needed

Hi All,

I saw a great doctor yesterday in London who acknowledged my Hashimotos and despite 'normal' TSH results, diagnosed me with an underactive thyroid and adrenal fatigue by listening to my symptoms.

He is starting me on Nature Throid, I wanted to get people's experience on it?

Thanks!

Nature Throid come under NDT which is natural dessicated thyroid hormones it provides all of the hormones a healthy gland would produce.

Your Endo will provide a dose and you will have an increase every couple of weeks or he will prefer you to take one dose and get a blood test after six weeks before he increases.

Blood tests were invented along with levothyroxine (T4 only) and if we take an alternative to levo, i.e. NDT or T3 added to T4 (known as combo) or T3 only, the results cannot correlate so it is based on how the patient 'feels' on particular doses and NDT is increased gradually until patient feels well with relief of symptoms.

Members who take NDT will respond and there are other NDTs too but the effect should be the same.

(I am not medically qualified and have hypothyroidism).

I have been taking Nature-Throid for over a year and buy it from the States. Your Endo sounds enlightened. I started 'low and slow' as I was taking Levo at the time and had to transition over. I like the fact that it is made from natural hormones - albeit porcine, and contains T1, T2, T3, T4 and calciton, the latter protecting against osteoporosis. My body was not used to the direct 'hit' of T3 at the beginning and I had a few 'hyper' symptoms - sweats, palps, runs etc. Your TSH is likely to become below range or even 'switched off' on NDT, so don't worry if this happens and think you need to reduce your dose.

Thanks Scazzoh - what other reactions did you have? I've only been on it since Friday (4 days) but not feeling any surges yet. How long did it take for you to feel a little better?

Hopefully you won't have any 'surges'. I was very ill at the time, with a major Hashi's 'flare', so it took a few months before I began to feel anywhere near 'normal'. However I noticed small improvements within a few weeks - more energy, less 'brain fog', better sleep. I think it was a combination of things which helped, including NDT, but also the Paleo Autoimmune Protocol. I had high cortisol, which didn't help, so started taking Ashwagandha, an adrenal adaptogen.
