Nature Throid

Hi all, I've been on Nature Throid for around 2 months now. Here are a couple of test results. My doctor is upping my dose, but I haven't started the new prescription yet. Just wondering what you all think of these levels. This is all he would test me for:

TSH: 2.820 uIU/mL (0.450 - 4.500 uIU/mL}

T4 (Thyroxine), Free: 1.11 ng/dL (0.82 - 1.77 ng/dL)

T3, Free: 2.5 pg/mL (2.0 - 4.4 pg/mL)

Thank you for your help!

Those result say you're very under-medicated. Usually, someone on NDT would have a TSH right down the bottom of the range, if not suppressed. And your FT3 is too low. So, you do need an increase in dose.

Thank you, Greygoose - I'm not sure what dose my doctor has put me on, but I'm pretty sure it will be just one "step' up from what I'm on now...which is 32.5mg. After I start taking that new dose, he'll want me to come in for another blood test. I'll keep you posted! Hope you are doing well!

You should only increase by a quarter grain at a time. And retest six weeks after.

I'm fine, thank you - apart from the heat! But it's cooler, today, so that's good. :)

Hmmm...I'll have to wait & see what he ordered..hopefully, he has done that? My pharmacy is having a hard time getting the Nature Throid still..are you guys having the same problem over there? Sorry you've been so hot over there...me, too! It's been in the 100 degree range here in the US. Glad I have an evaporative cooler! PHEW!

Um… I'm not exactly 'over there'. I'm in France, and NDT is illegal in France, so we never have any, anyway. :)

France is "over there" to me. Why is it illegal?? Just curious!

Long story, I did a post on it, once. I'll see if I can find it.

Wow! What an overreaction! I thought stuff like that only happened in the US. Thanks for sharing, Greygoose....

Hi SweetSusie, it is quite refreshing to hear of a doc who is doing the right thing! Your doc has obviously been reading the right literature. Hang on to him for dear life - literally as well as figuratively. He puts you on Nature Thyroid (good stuff) then increases you a little bit because your results are not quite perfect! Oh boy, you are very lucky. And yes, I think we all agree that you do need an increase, I can't believe that "we" and your doc are all in unison. Just do what this guy says, I can't believe I just said that.

Yes..he's turning out to be one of the few heroes in my life. I was very dubious about him at first..he seemed very distant and didn't say much, but I guess he was just listening to what I was saying and processing. I almost quit him after the first 2 visits, but then I started joking a bit with him and it seemed to loosen him up. I told him about this blog and how all the wonderful people had such great articles to read, etc. Maybe he looked you guys up!!! Anyway, I wish we hads many more like him!

Out of interest sweetsusie where are you? UK? He surely isn't an NHS doctor!

I'm in the US....Colorado to be exact. Yes..but most of the doctors here are very close-minded, just like in your Country. I do plan on keeping him around, although I requested that he test my estrogen levels, because I just started hormone replacement therapy (HRT) 4 months ago, and I'm curious. He said no...that he doesn't believe the readings are very accurate...so go figure, huh?
