RESULTS HELP PLEASE

Hi all,

Hope everyone is well.

I had my thyroid removed in 2009 as I had Graves' disease and thyroid eye disease.

I am currently on 125mg thyroxine (dropped from 150mcg 6 weeks ago as my TSH was too low)

I feel exhausted and ILL allll the time.

Freezing cold, gaining weight by the second, headaches and insomnia.

I don't think I'm converting T4 to T3. These are my most recent blood results. Would be grateful with deciphering them. Thank you x

Free T3 : 2.6 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8)

Free T4: 13.68. pmol/L (12.0 - 22.0)

TSH: 2.510 mU/L (0.270 - 4.200)

Haemoglobin A1c. 30.0. mmol/mol (29 - 42)

You are undermedicated to have TSH 2.51, FT4 is low in range and FT3 is below range. It is low FT3 which causes hypothyroid symptoms. The goal of Levothyroxine is to restore the patient to euthyroid status. For most patients that will be when TSH is 0.27 - 1.0 with FT4 in the upper range. FT4 needs to be in the upper range in order that sufficient T3 is converted. Some patients will need TSH to be suppressed in order to have sufficient T4 for conversion to T3. AuntieMandy It seems as though you have a doctor who doses by TSH only and I imagine that you didn't need that reduction in dose. What were your results that prompted the reduction - the free Ts as well as the TSH? You would get a clearer picture of whether you convert well enough from those results as long as FT3 was tested as well as FT4.
