Latest results taken after 1 week of 25mcg t3 and 10 months of 112.5 t4. I had to take tests early because doctor ordered them. In feeling rubbish, tired, pressure over thyroid and physically weak. Could this be a too high dose? If I should lower what shall I choose t3 or t4? Am self medicating t3.
Why have you increased your T3 to 25mcg when Clutter suggested staying on your dose of 18.75mcg for now healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...
Testing just 1 week after a dose increase is far too soon, you need at least 6 weeks, some of us need longer for our levels to stabilise. I expect if you retest in a few weeks' time your FT3 will be over range, as Clutter suggested in that post.
If you're going to reduce anything, reduce the T3.
Sorry, but I'm so desperate to feel well or at least better. Have a friend who's a chemist who said because half life is so much shorter for t3 you can test earlier and therefore I increased dose after the test. Will lower back then. Could it be that I will feel best with free t3 in the middle or is it always best att the top
"Could it be that I will feel best with free t3 in the middle or is it always best att the top"
That's a very individual thing, only you will know. I take Levo plus T3 and have been tweaking doses since starting with T3 two years ago. Personally I have felt best with FT4 at least half way through it's range and FT3 near the top. But other people do fine with FT4 much lower than I need and maybe FT3 not as high.
But all the building blocks need to be in place so optimal vitamin and mineral levels are important, addressing Hashi's if you have it, addressing any gut/absorption problems if present, if all that is good and your still unwell think about adrenals, sex hormone levels. There's a lot involved with the endocrine system.
When I make a dose change, even with T3, it takes 8 weeks for my levels to stabilise and me to know if that change is right.
that's okay but yes you're likely overmedicated then - it can make you feel worse than hypo. I would reduce back to the 18.75 and retest two months later before making any further changes. Any increase I have in t3, takes me three months to feel the full effect - you just have to be patient
Actually, just looking at your other posts - I would go back to the 12 and retest in six weeks. T3 is very powerful and sometimes doesn't take much to go over. If not normalised by then, you need to think about swapping T4 for T3 rather than simply adding T3
Clara I'm sorry you're going through that, I was just there. I added 10 mcgs of T3 to 88 mcgs of T4 and didn't reduce my T4, which I probably should have done at the time that I added the T3. At any rate my TSH ended up at 0.045 and being hyper was WORSE than being hypo!
I agree with the others, I think dropping the T3 down or even skipping it for a couple of days might result in you feeling better. But of course I am not a doctor!
FWIW: My endo said to drop the T3 since it was pushing me hyper and just go with 88 mcgs of T4 only for now. Looking at my lab trends I seem to be converting the T4. Retest in 5 weeks. He said for my weight and BMI I should only need 100 mcgs of replacement hormone per day, however I get there, be it using T3 and T4. Well with 88 mcgs of T4 plus 10 mcgs of T3 (which is really equal to 40 mcgs of T4) I was taking 128 mcgs, which was too much. There are online calculators that you can use to maybe find a dose closer to what your weight/BMI will allow you to do. I had gotten my T3 from a holistic doctor was I too was desperate to feel better. I understand how desperation can drive us to do such things!
