Hi I have Hashimotos, under active thyroid (200mg Levo) I am taking vit d, b12 injections, magnesium, selenium. I have just started eating gluten free to try to lose weight. Looking to get a very good probiotic to take and a good b complex. What strengths should I be looking for? Any advice or experiences would be grateful! ππ
Probiotics : Hi I have Hashimotos, under active... - Thyroid UK
Probiotics
Probiotic should have at least 8-12 strains minimum. Kept in the fridge. I get a good one from "pure" they have great pure products and free shipping. I just take a multivitamin from new chapter w folate and all the B vitamins. I also like Calm for my magnesium calcium intake. Raspberry lemon flavor. Add it to water and it's pretty good actually. Magnesium and calcium should be taken together. Liquid form is always best.
Not usually recommended to take calcium as well as magnesium. When taking vitamin D supplements calcium levels rise automatically and excess calcium is not good. That's why taking vitamin K2 is recommended to help send increased calcium to bones where it should be, not furring up arteries
You can get calm vitality magnesium powder on its own without calcium
Multivitamins tend to be too low and often contain iodine (to be avoided with Hashimoto's)
greygoose is good on why to avoid multivitamins
Good vitamin B complex - Igennus super B complex is good option. Dose is two tablets daily. Can start with one and increase.
Remember to stop taking any supplements with biotin in (most B complex) 3-4 days before any future blood tests. Biotin can falsely affect test results
Hi Keeley, Dr Isabella Wentz who lives in the States had Hashimotos herself. She has carried out an awful lot of research and written two books on the subject. If you Google her name and probiotics it might come up with probiotics she recommends. You can also go on her emailing list where she emails information every so often. Note, there is no pressure to buy anything on these emails. Apparently if you have SIBO (small intestinal bowel overgrowth) there are certain probiotics that you shouldn't be taking.
If you are using GF to lose weight then I recommend sticking to foods that are naturally gluten free. Many processed foods that are GF have more fats and sugars than the regular varieties
