Ok so I been having issues for years and years and keep getting tested. I am constantly exhausted and sore all over, hair comes out in handfuls, peeling skin, dry brittle nails to name but a few things. This has all been put down to many things over the years from you have a small child what else do you expect but to be tired to delayed grief for my dad even although this has been going on for years before he died.

Anyway thought I would try one last time with the docs and have just had blood results through today. Apologies he hasn't given me ranges (it was hard enough getting the actual figures from him).

He has said that I am not anemic but all my vitamins are insufficient especially my vitamin D so is getting another test done for my parabolic thyroid.

My TSH was 4.1 and T4 was 14, the doc has said this is perfectally normal but from what I have been reading today it is out with range or am I not reading this right.

Sorry for the long and confusing post I have a lot running through my head at this minute with this and keep wondering if it would be worth going private to get full tests done as I have private healthcare through my work.

Hello and welcome to the forum

You are legally entitled to your lab results. The ranges are necessary here so go back to the GP and demand printout. Unless labs were performed first thing AM after fasting over nite (water OK) the results are likely scewed.

If you head over to the Thyroid UK site they have a list of thyroid friendly GPs available - contact them directly for that.

Also on the site is a link to private labs for any further testing you require. We also recommend results for ferritin, folate, B12 and Vit D as they are often deficient due to malabsorption problems and gut issues.

GPs know virtually nothing about thyroid so "normal" results mean almost nothing as the ranges are so broad. (What is consider "in range" in the U.K. Is considered abnormal elsewhere)

Can you please post the laboratory ranges with your thyroid blood test results? If you are in the UK then 4.1 would normally be within the normal laboratory range for a person without any thyroid disease but can't be sure without the lab ranges. It would be on the high side for someone with thyroid disease.

But you don't know whether you have thyroid disease unless your doctor has tested for thyroid antibodies. Do you have results for TPO and TgAb otherwise known as anti thyroperoxidase antibodies and Thyroglobulin antibodies?

Thanks - I forgot to mention the antibodies as well! ☺️

Link above for the main website of this Forum telling you everything you need to know and confirming the information people post ! The link is for the various companies that do Private Testing - sending kits to your home. Very well used on this forum so you can have the complete story rather than only half.

Make sure you obtain all those results for vitamins too so people here can make sure you are taking the correct doses of the right vitamins and minerals.

Thank you for replying. I am back to get more bloods done tomorrow morning so will try and get the full results then. My bloods that I got the results for today were done at lunch time they did not say anything about them needing to be fasting bloods. Off to look at the recommended site. Thank you
