I'm a 65 year old woman who was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 30 years ago and have been on varying doses of Synthyroid. I repeatedly asked my doctor to change me to Armour but he always refused. About 20 months ago I developed something tentatively diagnosed as Attached Muscle Shortening in my legs. I am now wheelchair bound and require pain medication which does very little to control the pain. I go to PT and can walk a little with a walker. I changed doctors and she put me on Armour 5 weeks ago. My numbers at my blood draw are listed below. Any advice or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading this..

How much Armour are you taking ? Your TSH should be much lower - around 1 or under. As I mentioned in your previous thread - your T3 will be low - and it is 😊

No result for thyroid anti-bodies or VitD - Ferritin - Folate.

B12 needs to be nearer the top of the range. Are you taking any meds that could be affecting absirption ?? What supplements do you take ?

My Armour dosage is 120. I'm taking iron and Vit. B12 complex. I've only been on Armour for five weeks and have an appt. for more blood work in two wks to see if my dosage needs to be adjusted. What could I be taking that would interfere with the absorption of my T3? Thx so much.

Do you take iron at least 4 hours apart from Armour?

Usually if T3 is lower we need an increase in dose.

As you have just changed doctors and she's prescribed Armour she is probably knowledgeable and will get you back to good health as your TSH was/is exceptionally high.

We cannot rush doses and we've been ill for a long time so I hope you feel better as your dose is increased.

donnarowland223 - when taking B12 it is advisable to also take a GOOD B complex to keep all the B's in balance and B12 works with Folic Acid/folate in the body. Also low folate can cause symptoms - so was yours tested ? Am assuming your Ferritin was low as you have been prescribed Iron. Taking VitC with the iron will aid absorption.

Not sure if you are taking a B complex or B12 on its own - from reading your post. Have not heard of a B12 Complex unless it is a B complex containing B12 - which they usually do. Not enough B12 in a Complex if your B12 result is low ....

Thank you for your reply. I see my pic doctor next week for another blood draw and I will ask about my B12 and B Vitamins.

I was mistaken in my previous reply: I do not take iron.

Have you had thyroid antibodies tested ever? You need to know if cause of thyroid issues is autoimmune (Hashimoto's)

If you have Hashimoto's then vitamin levels are often low as gut is affected. Gluten intolerance very common, have you tried changing to a strictly gluten free diet

Also good vitamin D levels very important.

As Marz says B12 plus vitamin B complex to improve low B12. But remember to stop taking any supplements with biotin in 3-4 days prior to any future blood tests as biotin can falsely affect test results

Thank you for your insights; especially about biotin, as I was not aware of this. I will. Check all my supplements and if necessary discontinue them before my next blood draw. ❤️

Will also have antibodies checked. Have been off of gluten, dairy, sugar, and caffeine for about eight weeks.

I was off gluten for 3 years before anti-bodies reduced. They were very high though 😊

Very resistant, aren't they?

Yes you are right 😊 I also have had Crohns for 43 years so there could be a connection 😟

My antibodies have halved over a year since GFree and now on small divided dose T3 (3x daily) as well as T4 at bedtime- TPO antibodies dropping faster as TSH is lower
